WHERE is all of this fantastic food coming from that you all speak of?? I need to get out more often. Dark chocolate cream cheese??? Seriously? What the hell. I'm SO HUNGRY NOW. Can't speak to the other stuff, but the cream cheese was one of those spreadable tubs from Philadelphia Cream Cheese, shelved with all the other flavored varieties they put out. Salmon & pineapple are particularly good. Now you're just screwing with me.

Both varieties are readily available in most decent size grocery stores and are quite tasty on bagels.

Salmon and cream cheese (with tomato and onion) is so good. Not sure I could bring myself to buy salmon flavored cream cheese.

I can't with the salmon. Only fish anything I ever even touch is tuna fish (rarely) and shrimp.
But thanks for letting me know about the others!

Not necessarily mixed with cream cheese, although they do go well together. Go to a fish market or a supermarket with a good fish counter, and buy a small amount of lox or some other variety of smoked salmon. Try it alone, on bread or crackers or, famously, bagels, with or without cream cheese or other accompaniments. Try a few different varieties of fish and flavoring. The traditional bagel combo has cream cheese, lox and sliced tomato and red onion. I prefer to omit the onion and add avocado and a lettuce leaf to hold it all together. The ingredients balance nicely. I'm so glad my wife introduced me to smoked fish and the rest of Jewish cuisine (although smoked fish is common in Scandinavia and Celtic lands as well as many Native American traditions).

Maybe I will. I just do not like the taste of fish things. I can eat shrimp because it doesn't taste fishy to me. I can eat tuna fish because I grew up eating it, and it's pretty easy to make it taste decent. But even then, I still try to go out of my way NOT to eat it.

In all honesty, if the fish you've tried truly tastes "fishy," it wasn't good fish &/or wasn't prepared right. I don't pretend to have any sort of discriminating palate in the least, but until 10 years ago or so I had no interest in salmon, because I'd only ever had it in patty form, made from canned salmon, by my mother-in-law (who was a very good cook, BTW; it's just that we were in Phoenix, so fresh salmon wasn't exactly lying around waiting to be picked up).
During a trip to the Panama City, Fla., area, though, for some reason or other (probably because, as noted previously, I'm not much for red meat) I decided to try a salmon burger. I loved it, & I've been partial to fresh salmon ever since.

I loved it, & I've been partial to fresh salmon ever since. It's funny you mention canned salmon. My mom is from Rhode Island, and she loves all fish type foods. But she always complained about living in Illinois because the fish was NEVER good. She always said she'd have to go back to the east coast to get any real seafood. But, she got by with what she could get, but never attempted to buy "fresh" seafood here, so she would make Salmon patties and force them on us when I was young. I absolutely refused to eat them because they had the little bones in them still. I tried them, and they were so gross. And I don't do bones at all, ever. But my husband had some fresh salmon when we were in Virginia, and he had me try it, and I still thought it tasted too fishy.

Not sure (in the sense of "I haven't the slighest idea") whether salmon from that area, as opposed to, say, the Pacific NW or wherever, would be the ideal. I just know that the salmon I've had on the Gulf & at restaurants up here with access to it, including hibachi places, hasn't been fishy at all to me. (Ditto for tuna.)
Growing up, we never had fish except for occasional frozen fishsticks, because my mother abominated it. (The fishsticks, of course, were for me, not her.) Still managed to develop a love for fried catfish; I'm about as far from the typical ArkLaTex native as can be imagined, but that's one exception to my oddball-ness.

It's one of the meatiest slabs of fish around and I always choose it in a BBQ if that's the fish option. Oh great, now I'm salivating like one of Pavlov's dogs.

No, I have not tried it. I take it I am missing out?
I need to move where the fish is better.
