Wondering how many of us here got published in the letters column of a comic. I had a handful that made it into print in the early Eighties: in Rampaging Hulk, Dr. Strange, Ka-Zar, Fantastic Four (that sideways issue Byrne did), and Love and Rockets. It was a big deal to me each time I saw that a letter made it in but I could only look on in envy at those masters of the craft who always seemed get into the letters cols (remember T.M. Maple?). I never got a letter into a DC comic, though I do recall getting a brief form letter in response once with the typical "thank you for writing." Oh, and I got a personal response once from Brent Anderson after I wrote in praising his work on Ka-Zar. 15 year-old me thought that was pretty cool.

In the 80s, I never got a letter printed in a US edition (probably because they were silly "laundry list" letters), but I did get some printed in UK reprints.
During my teenage years (90s), I did get letters printed in many UK Marvel titles as I'd moved beyond the "laundry list" writing to, hopefully, articulating something better.
In recent years, I did get some letters printed in the US editions, including Immortal Hulk and Thor.

I got a letter published in Savage Sword of Conan in the ‘80s, when I sent the mag a list of all the kings and queens who had been featured or mentioned in the Marvel Conan comics. The idea was to facilitate the job of the editor when it came to oversee continuity. The letter was shortened to a paragraph, with one line missing altogether, and the list was clearly never used!

I only wrote one letter to a comic book in all my years as a fan. Amazingly, it got printed, more-or-less verbatim (Defenders #115). Many years later, I had letters run in The Jack Kirby Collector and Comic Book Artist, not long before I began writing for TwoMorrows.
Cei-U! I summon my dubious claim to fame!

One in the second issue of the indie comic Tales from the Bog (commenting on the first issue) and one in Mike Grell's Bar Sinister (issue 3 or 4, I think), commenting on the first issue. I had a few letters (I think 3, maybe 4) printed in the Comic Buyer's Guide and two in the Comic Book Artist, from Twomorrows.

One, to Brave and the Bold in 1977 or '78, IIRC. They cut my long and insightful letter to one line.

Around '83 or so I decided to try to be a regular contributor. Over a couple weeks, I wrote a dozen or so letters to DC, Eclipse, CBG, etc. About half got published.
After that, I got a job, so didn't have the time.

I only ever had letters in a couple of Shindig music magazines, but maybe The Crimebusters comic will change that?

I e-mailed a letter of praise to Boom! when they briefly took over publishing Disney comics a decade back, and I was thoroughly surprised to see it published in an ensuing issue. It had never even occurred to me that I was effectively letter-writing to a publisher, as I was just trying to encourage them to keep up the good work!

Two letters in The Comic Reader and a reply from George O about Marvel Time and how long has Peter actually been in college (we settled on six years).

Avengers #353! I wrote in about issue #349. My questions were insightful, articulate, and spot on. Their answers were churlish and wrong-headed.
Basically, i thought they had screwed up by having a couple characters act out of character, and they were like "eh. characterization, whatever!!"

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, back when I was a kid I had some letters published in DC mags, mostly in Adventure (when the Legion was the main feature), and also World's Finest, Teen Titans, and Lois Lane. Very childish letters--I never dared write to Marvel. Even so I have to admit it was always a thrill to write a letter and then see it in print, no matter how juvenile my comments were.
But I never even saw the TT or LL letters back then, thanks to spotty distribution. And then I didn't read comics for decades and forgot all about that stuff. So I only came across those letters as an adult, when in the early 2000s I became interested in comics history and started checking out online resources. At some pint not too long ago I stumbled upon some sites that have reprinted letter columns and I was shocked, shocked to see my letters there! I remembered my Legion and World's Finest letters, but I'd totally forgotten about the ones in TT and LL. Thanks to the resources I was able to get the issue numbers and maybe one day I'll pick up the comics themselves.
Also when I got back into comics, I started to buy comic-related magazines and have had some correspondence printed in the old Comics Buyer's Guide (about the Inhumans in the Silver Age...Cap and Agent 13 in the Silver Age ...see a pattern here?) and Alter Ego. Also did a bit of writing awhile back for Back Issue.

I kept meaning to send in fashion designs to Meet Misty and California Girls... but never did. My Mom said one of her friends had her designs and name published in '50s Katy Keene, Millie The Model, and Patsy Walker. But the wildest thing was, I didn't have more than half a dozen WWII era Fawcett comics ever, and one I had, Whiz Comics #16, April 1941 (definitely the oldest superhero comic I will ever have though I saw a Centaur Arrow #1 once), had a letter in it from a guy my Dad later worked with and was good friends with. He was a Chinese guy, must've been quite young when he wrote in, and my Dad wasn't even born until later that year (in occupied Holland). What are the odds? I did wonder if I somehow ended up with the issue he had kept or something, or if the other old Fawcetts I had might also have been his and found their way to the comic shop. I don't think there were always letters pages in comics back then either. A very memorable back-issue!

yes. Several. . tho the one I'm most proud of them publishing was in "Hulk" #426, even if Marvel edited the hell out of it - to clean it up and give it a more positive spin (followed by a Suicide Prevention hotline #.. AFTER they took out most of my harshest criticism that they had a character kill himself upon getting an HIV + diagnosis). This was a letter, I literally hand wrote this in anger on a sheet of torn out notebook paper. it's a response to Hulk #420, and was published. . wow. . 25 years ago. and hadn't thought of it in years. . .but I knew about when the AIDS issue of Hulk was, and lo and behold, found the letters page for 426 online, let's see if I can link to it. Mine is the one that starts out: "Damn you! Damn you! Damn you!". . it's still strong, even with the edits, but it's not really the letter I wrote to them.
