One of the greats in my opinion. Happy birthday, Sal.

Happy birthday Sal! My first exposure to his work was when he inked Big John's pencils in the immortal Silver Surfer #4 --his first or second job at Marvel!--and then a few months later, Captain America #115. Perfect inker for his brother and a damn fine penciler and storyteller. I remember reading an interview in which Roy Thomas asked Sal how he'd managed to snag such a prestigious assignment (inking John's Silver Surfer #4 pencils) so early on in his Marvel career. Sal replied that that John wasn't very happy with Joe Sinnott's inking and Stan wanted to keep John happy, and so...the rest is history. From 1969's FF Annual #7
