So it came to me the other day: what if you had to choose only one? No taking the middle of the road. You MUST make a choice. No in-between or walking the middle to be safe. Not talking about evil versus good, life versus death or such intensity. Merely saying you at THIS very instance have to make a decision, a choice based on impulse or on consideration of like or not liking. Simply choosing for the moment...what would it be? Knowing that there is no wrong or right answer: just the choice you make now. Each MONDAY I will provide 2 choices (sometimes 3 or 4 or more) and you choose ONLY ONE and your reasoning (or not) for the choice. Just a mental exercise to engender discussion and thought. So that everyone can participate I will allow responses for ONE WEEK (7 full days) and yes, if you wish to you may change your choice later in the week if you can explain your reasoning/rationalization for doing so. Should you have idea's/suggestions of your own please PM me and they might be considered being used.
Let's keep it simple, friendly and fun and I hope you play along.
To begin I will start with comic book subjects:
DC or Marvel or Other?
My choice is...Marvel. Growing up I was a Marvel Zombie. I saw a few DC and Marvel during the start of the 70's. I learned there was much more to the comic book world than what my uncle had in his Barber Shop or what my grandparents might bring me. I was hooked on Stan's over the top hype writing and Steve and Jack and John and Don and George and Gene and Sal (etc) art and then during the later 70's the influx of "fan" writers and artists adding to the evolving Marvel Universe. Along comes Thomas, Englehart, Gerber, Moench, McGregor, Starlin, Claremont, (etc) pushing the concepts of comic books even further. The artists become even more astounding: Steranko, Adams, Perez, Byrne and so on. DC had some great series and heroes and villains but there was just that something extra in Marvel that i gravitated towards. Doing odd jobs in the neighborhood like mowing yards, painting wood fences and my meager allowance I would begin investing in comic books for reading. With only a hand full of spare change in the beginning I was making hard decisions as to what series or publisher to spend my money on. With the Marvel line I always felt like I was getting the most for my spending. Heroes and Villains I liked and wanted to read about. Writers and artists that provided me with stimulating and exciting ideas and concepts. Readily available for the most part as DC and other publishers had fewer titles at the local Korean markets out in the boondocks of South Phoenix where I was located. Later on during high school I would find the reverse being true in the stores around town and expanding my reading pleasure, but those mid 70's years in grade school with only the 2 stores to shop at limited my choices. And I didn't mind one bit. Marvel was my drug of choice!
So let your own choices begin! Either or, which do you choose?!?
