Haven't seen Jarhead but I'll say Full Metal Jacket anyway on the basis that it's Kubrick, even if not one of his best.

Neither. Apocalypse Now for me. Spent many a night watching with 2 of my uncle's who were there and viewings were emotional and personal with loooong discussions full of memories and music and alcohol any night it was on HBO.

This week's Whicg One is what is more Christmas flavored ad nd favored for the holiday to you? Candy Canes or Ginger bread cookies?
As a child sucking away the cold winter days it was those small cheap candy canes mom would get for a buck a box. But now as an adult I prefer my Ginger Bread Cookies. The taste just feels wintery and goes perfect with my hot tea. I have tried Ginger bread cookies at other times of the year, but it just isn't the same. I need chill in the air, maybe a bit of rain outside while warmly cozied inside. Then some Ginger Snaps hits the spot. How about you all?

As an adult, Ginger Bread cookies. The only thing I use Candy Canes for now is as a stir stick for hot chocolate which adds peppermint flavor to the hot chocolate as it melts in.

Stealing the question again.... Which one is better? Full Metal Jacket or Jarhead?
Full Metal Jacket, no contest. The drill sergent scene alone would make it the winner. I also don't think that Jarhead, good as it is, even makes it to the top ten war movies on my list.

I don't think I ever really liked candy canes.

Ginger bread. By a couple of orders of magnitude.
My Mom did a few things that are inextricably linked to holidays for me. For Halloween it was caramel popcorn balls. For Christmas it was gingerbread men. I've tried a few times to make her recipe work for me and have failed every time. But my Sister can do a decent facsimile.

Gingerbread, hands down.
My younger daughter is doing a project for school (she's in the Gifted program) where they have to build a famous landmark out of baked goods, similar to what TV shows like "Great British Baking Show" (a particular favorite in The Captain's household) do. She chose to make Big Ben (the clock tower, although it isn't the clock or tower but actually the bell that is named Big Ben, and not the local pro football quarterback), and she is doing it out of gingerbread.
After making WAY TOO MUCH dough for the project, my wife and girls baked an assortment of gingerbread men, women, and snowmen, and if they don't eat them quickly, I'm going to get really fat before Christmas Day even comes. They are frickin' delicious.

yes, gingerbread. I don't even like the look of candy-canes.
Will this be the first unanimous vote of the thread?

For snacking, gingerbread. But hanging a small candy cane on the edge of a mug of hot cocoa is a yummy childhood tradition that I still do in my 50s.

No contest--gingerbread all the way! Gingerbread cookies, and especially gingerbread men with royal icing.
I admit I have fondness for many of the flavored (non-peppermint) candy canes that are sold now -- cinnamon is a particular favorite. But plain old "normal" peppermint candy cane? Meh.
