I am starting this thread because I have books I wanted to give to someone who wants them, would read them, and either would keep them and cherish them, or would pass them on to someone else who may love them. There are a couple people from this forum who have sent me freebies, and before donating them, I wanted to check here first to see if anyone here wanted them. This is the place where we can offer up books that we no longer want, be they comics or regular books, for FREE, to include shipping as well (free shipping within your country, out of country can be discussed). This is NOT a thread to sell any of your books or to make a profit, somehow, off of any of your books. This is the Generous Souls thread. But there must be a system to the giving. And, please, feel free to modify my post to add anything, or post your own whatevers as you feel necessary. 1. The books you put up in this thread are FREE. You do NOT make a profit off of them. This is not a "For Sale" thread.2. If you are interested in a book someone has posted, quote the post, and let them know you'll PM them with your mailing info.3. If you post a book up in this thread, please pay attention to the thread and/or your messages.4. First post, first serve (see number 2).5. Try to include a picture, but if you cannot, just try to properly describe the book and list what info you have.Admins and/or mods, please feel free to add any other rules or anything else you feel necessary. I'm not feeling well today (allergies), so I may be forgetting something (or a lot of somethings).

I'll start: I have these books: Both hardcover, basically brand new. Maybe slight shelf wear (but I'm not really seeing any). If you want them, post and then PM me.

I love the spirit of this thread. We had something like it at the old forum -- The Classic Comics Exchange. Thanks for starting it up, Coldwater

This would work better if this was a much more populated forum, and you could get in contact with someone from your city. As it is, with postal expenses and everything…
Commendable initiative, in any case.

This would work better if this was a much more populated forum, That's the first time I've heard that complaint here. We've got far more traffic than the old subforum did, and this thread's predecessor there worked fine with a few excited participants. While that's less likely, it could certainly be a precedent for this thread that users post their state of residence in order to simplify shipping costs.

They don't need to that openly.

What is the problem?

There shouldn't be one. Those interested in sending/exchanging are free to swap contact information. I've already got a couple PMs from people who know what I like.

I don't see a problem either. We just need more participants. It will likely gain more momentum once a larger selection of free books are being offered. The ones in your op are fascinating to me, but would not be to everyone's taste.

Sending via Media Mail is really cheap, about $2.50 for a hardcover. Shipping comics is tougher, they don't qualify for Media Mail and since condition is a much bigger issue with comics you usually have to use a lot of packaging. I'm in a book swap club and when I ship a book I use printer paper and nothing else. No extra packaging, and I haven't gotten a complaint.

Although comics aren't supposed to qualify, a number of my Ebay packages still arrive that way. I've only had one instance of a package being returned over the past 5 years, much to the sender's shock, horror and embarassment (she didn't know about the Media Mail restriction). I sent her some extra cash anyway cuz I wanted my books.

Considering that the books are free, I wouldn't expect condition to matter too much.

Great idea! Alas, unless its within Canada I have to bow out. Shipping is brutal.

Yeah, if a buyer asks me to send Media Mail I will, but I tell them I pretty much wash my hands of the deal, won't accept a return, and can't offer insurance.

oooh, sorry. In my complete exhaustion yesterday evening, I got confused and thought there was a problem/question with how this works.
