chadwilliam, that mask GH is wearing in the cover at the bottom is right in style today... in certain neighborhoods, anyway.

Metallo's short lived Bronze Age look. I can't imagine he made much more than a half dozen appearances with this look. Mr. Mxyztplk's original look. Though this one from Action Comics #388 works well too. Outside of some Super Powers comics, a bonus tale in an issue of Detective Comics, and a cameo in the second Robin mini-series, I don't know if this version of Mr. Freeze even appeared in the comics (maybe in Animal Man?). This actually looks like a containment unit as opposed to a pair of tights attached to a fishing bowl. Simon Bisley's Scarecrow from Batman/Judge Dredd: Judgement on Gotham

I always thought that that Sub-Mariner costume with the black tights and vest and the wings made him look like a superhero Dracula.

According to Byrne, the costumes were black and white. Yeah, but he's color blind (not making that up).
That's why he didn't realise that the reverse image of the FF's original uniforms (which was the rationale from the change on return from the Negative Zone) would have been orange and black. Yeuch!

Also partial for Wolverine's Brown suit Storm's Mohawk phase And the Winged helmet version of Black Knight
These three are my faves for the characters as well.

while i know I'm in the minority? as a huge fan of George Perez? I LOVED his Zatanna redesign, and all thru my young comics reading/collecting years, I considered this her "real" costume
I prefer her original costume, or a variant, for her solo stories, but she ought to wear a superhero costume when she's hanging with the Justice League, and this is much superior to that silver disco monstrosity with the ponytail.

Silver? Ya' mean this one? Looks black, to me.... or comic book blue/black.... If that's supposed to be silver, they are going at it the hard way.

Did Zatanna's costume change occur during Steve Englehart's time on the JLA series? If so, I wonder if it was a dliberate move towards having a Mantis/Moondragon-type heroine on the team, because the new look reminds me a bit of those characters, as does the "difficult" personality that seems to be on display in the pages above. I kind of like it, myself, based on the little I've seen - not surprisingly, since Mantis and Moondragon are two of my favourite Avengers characters.

Issue #163 to be precise.

Why has no-one mentioned the A-Team’s alternate costumes?

More costume tailoring goodness:
Captain Mar-Vell from his Kree Green/White uniform (which was way cool to begin with) to the classic blue/red with star on chest.
Nighthawk from the Blue/Black/Brown bad guy to his defacto Defenders good guy of Blue/Gold with Red Cape/wings.
She Hulk from torn white shirt to official purple white variations of FF uniform (thank you Mr. Byrne)
Angel from Xavier School black/yellow uniform to his yellow/red with suspenders (i keed, i keed), actually his yellow/red Champions.
Iceman from Frosty the Snowman mode to chiseled Ice Sculpture with uniform during Champions, never liked him with just trunks and boots.
The Thing from lumpy orange dinosaur hide to classic "rocky/brick" look.
Captain Atom from both of his ugly Ditko designs to the DC Silver Chrome with Atomic circle on chest.

I always thought the Champions look was a good one, and it ought to have been retained.

I always loved this Earth-2 "grown up" Robin costume. I remember it sparked something in me to draw new costumes for all my favorite heroes.
