Most heroes and villains have that one iconic costume. Oh, there have been minor variations to the classics over the years (Batman's chest symbol changes, Superman loses the underwear and then regains it), but generally -- there is that one easily identifiable costume. But what about those secondary costumes some artist tried out for a limited time that never really "stuck" (or maybe were never intended to)? A few of my favorites: Spider-Man's alien costume For a few brief years, this was the iconic Spidey suit, and I think it not only looks far cooler, but it also makes more sense for the character. Why is a Spider blue and red? Wolverine in blue and gold: I can't explain why I like this one so much. Maybe it's the contrast of a tidy/ordered uniform and the savage face and claws. ANY version of Wonder Woman in cape and battle armor: She just feels so much more iconic this way. Batman and Superman get capes, after all, and she was raised on an island of warriors. Superman's Krypton Man costume: Sleek, high contrast, easily identifiable, and it discarded the sillier elements of the original costume. Here's another favorite Perez design: And another great update from that era: A bunch of my other favorites all came about in the 1990s in paltry efforts to boost sales. I didn't like the rationale, but I did love the looks: ...and, speaking of Kyle Rayner: Fair warning -- the first person to post the masked Dr. Strange costume gets a perma-ban from the CCF...

What about Quicksilvers change from green to the light blue. Changed his booties & never looked back. 😁
Scarlet Witch too had simple modifications which for all intents stuck & made her all the more sexier.
Liked Mastersons Thor changes & liked even more as Thunderstrike. Updating basic Thor look to more contemporary style.
Changing Iron Man from clunky Kirby gold to sleek modern Ditko red/gold! Excellent and has simply had so many variations which still reflect that change.

I enjoyed Iron Man’s “New Coke” armour. And I am the world’s biggest fan of Luthor’s battlesuit. And, hey, Skeletor’s new look in The New Adventures of He-Man works well for me. I would share an image but, as per usual, the only images are really small or can’t be saved. Why can one never find a decent-sized image?

My favorite Iron man armor is the early 80s Red and Whites, followed closely by the stealth armor. I agree Kyle's version of the GL uniform is the best, but that's probably just because I love Daryl Banks. I agree with Shax that the Blue and Red Daredevil variant is cool.. especially if they revised it to remove the horrible 90s shoulder pads.

I liked the "back in black" Daredevil costume:

Here's a few favorites off the top of my head.
* The dark-blue-with-white-trim FF costumes John Byrne gave the team circa '84 * The puffy sleeves and hot pants version of Supergirl * George Perez's gypsy sorceress Scarlet Witch from the Busiek run * The Earth-2 Robin's costume, the one introduced in All-Sar #58 * Wonder Man's safari jacket look * Sub-Mariner's mid-'70s blue costume with the glider wings * Joe Staton's short-lived redesign of Robotman for the New Doom Patrol * Aquaman's blue comouflage costume
and how about that first round of Silver Age redesigns: Carmine Infantino's Flash, and Gil Kane's Green Lantern and Atom?
Cei-U! I summon the heroic haute coutoure!

Iron Man's Stealth Armor was cool... I'm in the minority, I'm sure, but I kind of liked Mike Grell's Cosmic Boy in a Corset.... So, maybe he and Night Girl get up to some fun at night; where's the harm in that? I also kind of liked Black canary's brief foray into more practical outfits.... From Action Comics Weekly, written by Sharon Wright, who is Mike Grell's ex-wife, who did a lot of writing on Warlord. This wasn't a bad look for the Blackhawks, if they had skipped the plunging neckline.

Iron Man's specialty armors were cool, especially liked the heavy space one from #142-144!
Wasp had a lot of different outfits, it became her thing not to have a regular one after the first pointy-headed years.
I tend to not like most of remake costumes though... I like Hawkman to have the bird head with the feathers on the sides, I like the late '50s-'60s Green Lantern, Flash and The Atom to have something as close to what they had throughout the '60s. I guess Supergirl in the early '70s going for a blouse with sleeves and slipper shoes was acceptable for the '70s-early '80s, but I still prefer the basic earlier model after that, it is not dated anymore than Superman's or Batman's are.
Dave Cockrum definitely did improve on most of the Legion Of Super-Heroes outfits though!
Wonder Man had sub-par costumes for ages, even the red suit with rocket belt looked better than those, but they finally got him right later and he is looking good in the late '90s and early '00s stories.
Angel in The X-Men's best costume is the white down the center one with the halo symbol, either blue or red. The X-Factor outfits were all very underwhelming.
If in doubt stick with the design and colors that most got the character where they are. Iron Man's colors are gold and red, the white had no appeal for me.

Daredevil's change to full RED from his yellow/black/red original.
Killraven change to shoulder chainmail with bandolier of explosive throwing stars from his original S/M look.
Doom Patrol from green jumpsuits to the classic red/white uniforms. Following that Beast Boy from DP outfit to Perez designed Red/White combo in Teen Titans.
Dick Grayson from Robin (was there ever a more impractical outfit?) To Nightwing's various costumes.

It depends on what qualifies as an alternate costume. I think Wolverine's brown and tan costume is better than the yellow and blue. It was the costume when I first started reading and was his primary costume for over a decade, but since it's was bookended by the yellow & blue, maybe it's an alternate. I like Psylocke's armored look. I also love the Braniac and Luthor looks from the first post by shaxper. Those are also the first looks I remember from when I was a kid. Red and white Iron Man is another good one. Here's a few favorites off the top of my head. * The puffy sleeves and hot pants version of Supergirl Before my time, but awesome. This is the correct answer. Please lock this thread now.

Neal Adams Robin redesign from 1990. Though it likely had a longer run than most of the other entries here (I think about 15 years), I'd argue that it deserved to run at least as long as its predecessor. I'd intended to discuss briefly used costumes more than permanent change-up, but how can I resist a conversation about Robin? Yes, the Neal Adams design was a vast improvement over the original (almost anything would have been), but I feel the One Year Later costume was where DC finally and truly got it right.

Not sure it counts, but I dug Captain America's "Captain" uniform during the time John Walker was Captain America. Of course, it later became USAgent's costume.
