Bolland does great static posesd artwork which is perfect for covers. He isn't as great with storytelling or action IMO. I was lucky to find Bolland in the pages of 200AD and watch his growth and rise as a fan favorite here in American comics.

Now that this is over, I have to say that... most of these covers don't really do a lot for me. A lot of his covers just leave me kind of cold. I dunno. I thought it was me. I know just what you mean. As good as he is as an artist, he doesn't capture emotion well. De gustibus, I guess.
I feel much the same. I don't actively dislike his work, the way I do for example Alex Ross's, but with the odd exception most of it feels unsatisfying to me.

I feel much the same. I don't actively dislike his work, the way I do for example Alex Ross's, but with the odd exception most of it feels unsatisfying to me.
Maybe he got put into a box--a lot of "portraits." But his Animal Man covers, for the most part are well-drawn and portray interesting ideas or situations.
Damn good artist, though.

Too bad that blank virgin variant covers aren't old enough to be considered "classic" for at least another 7-8 years. I'm just kidding-- to each his own. Everybody can't like everything...
and nobody has to like Rob Liefeld covers.

LOL, I'm not much of a Bolland fan either (it was a cool topic though) . I did admire some of the covers here, especially Icc's cover--which is why I voted for it! Glad it won-- congrats IccAs for the WW cover I submitted, I chose it because it was also used for the cover of this informative little (4" x 0.8" x 4.5") book I bought a few years ago, when I was getting back into comics. This was my introduction to Bolland's work.  |

Nobody does. As for Bolland, the man can draw; nobody disputes that. But to each his own. Hey, I like Bob Brown's covers, so start hunting for the next time I win... |

I LOVE Beanworld - the new-ish stories in the HC volumes were neato. And hey, remember that weird cross over series TOTAL ECLIPSE where Sienkiewicz kinda drew a bean?  |

Hey, it takes a whole lot to hurt my fee-fees... I have some pretty thick skin, so no offense taken at all. I was just making light of the whole thing.
Like I said, everyone's taste differs. Don't worry at all about me stomping off in a huff... you folks are stuck with me for a while-- get used it!😄
