Hi. Does anyone here know of a single person writer and illustrator of comic book issues?
The only person I know of this was Walter Simonson during his Thor run in the early to mid 1980's. And I am not sure but I thong John Byrne in his Fantastic Four run in the 1980's.
Are there others that you know of?

Personal favourites
Matt Wagner is usually the writer/artist on Mage and Grendel, though in case of Grendel he had some guest artists.
Alan Davis was writer/artist on some of Excalibur and all his Clan Destine issues and his JLA: The Nail mini-series.
Stjepan Šejić is writer/artist on Sunstone, Death Vigil, some of Ravine, Switch and for DC on Harleen.
But there are so, so many.

Yeah, Hergé was the first one that sprang to my mind, closely followed by Wendy Pini and Will Eisner, as mrp has already mentioned.
To name a few classic British examples that haven't been mentioned already...
Frank Hampson Bryan Talbot Mick Anglo Bryan Hitch

I don't ever recall reading a book that Neal Adams wrote and liking it. I liked the last couple of Deadman stories in Strange Adventures that Adams wrote/drew, but yeah except for those most his writing is.... difficult to get though.

Dan Jurgens Jerry Ordway Guy Davis Tim Vigil Neal Adams on a few rare occasions Neal Adams has pretty much exclusively been writing his own comics for the last decade... Batman Odyssey, a Superman mini series, and a Deadman Series... all are wack-a-doodle, crazy-insane roller coaster rides.

Thanks for the great compiled lists gentlemen. I hope I get to read some of the ones I am not familiar with. I always thought if the person behind the written work and the illustrations were the same person, that what he or she was trying to convey would come across more so than a collaborative team of writer and illustrator, even though there has been some great creative teams over the decades.
