I've got one more issue to go for the 2003 Batman Adventures series, issue 10. It's a Catwoman appearance that goes for 4 -5 times the price of the surrounding issues.

On a related note, the 2002 Catwoman series suffers form this in spades-Adam Hughes took over as cover artist mid-series and all the issues with his covers are super-pricey, but there is nothing on the insides that warrants greater demand or higher prices, -M
Or on the oustide either, if you ask me!
Not a fan.

I'm dealing with this right now trying to complete an Archie run. Basically there are two pricey issues over the last 600 issues of Archie, and fir the same stupid reason - they supposedly have a double entendre cover that adult perverts find funny.
Luckily, I got #271 in a lot, but I am still missing #511. So far the cheapest I have found it is $85 and I refuse to pay that for some trumped up nonsense. Hopefully I will eventually find one in a lot or dollar bin.

Vanguard Illustrated 2 Dave Stevens cheesecake cover takes it out of the dollar bin with the rest of the series and makes it a pricey book I'd say the same with DNAgents 24 but since it is the last issue of the first DNAgents series (the second series started just a few months later) it tecnically doesn't coumt according to the OP's criteria, but it's the Dave Stevens cover not the status as a last issue that makes it a run killer. -M Yup and as a Dave Stevens fan I always only look for this ish. I don’t know that o would ever think to read the series...is it good?

Anyone trying to put together a run of late 60s/early 70s Batman is going have problems finding #222, because of of its crossover collectability for collectors of Beatles memorabilia. (And a nifty Neal Adams cover.)

I know it's first appearance, but Incredible Hulk 449 is one that sticks out.

Pricey...I have no idea. But Pearl Necklace as slang dates to at least the early 80s. ZZ Top recorded "Pearl Necklace" in 1981 and George Carlin used it on his album "Carlin on Campus" in '84.

Yeah(, yeah, yeah), I've never found this at a price I could afford.

Defenders #10, the big Thor/Hulk slugfest, is significantly overpriced compared with the rest of the series. High grade copies are about $50, twice the previous issue and five times the following one.
Avengers #87 has the origin of Black Panther in it, and a high grade copy goes for at least $50, usually closer to $75 or more. The issues prior and after can each be had for about $12 in high grades.
Star Wars #68 has Boba Fett's origin in it, and it usually goes for $75 or more. The previous and following issues each can be had for about $5.
Amazing Spider-Man #229 and #230 (Spidey vs Juggernaut) are $25 books. Issue #228 is a $5 book, and #231 can be had for as little as $4.
All of the above are based on recent eBay auctions/Buy It Now books.

Of the five books you mentioned I had 4 of them and sold the Spider-man's years ago. I'm glad I don't have to buy my Avengers collection in 2020.

I don’t know that o would ever think to read the series...is it good? It's an anthology, there's some great stuff in there, some good stuff, some meh stuff and some terrible stuff. I don't have the whole run, but I do have a chunk of it. There's not a lot of demand for some of the 80s indy stuff except for stuff like Stevens covers, so a lot of dealers don't bring them to shows, so they can be hard to fill in runs unless you re ordering on-line or get lucky to find one in a random box.
