So I found this ad:
I wonder if the "villain" created actually showed up in an actual DC comic. It also makes me wonder, what were some other memorable comic book-related contests?

I could have sworn that the throw-away character Retro (he got hit by rays from the past) from Morrison's JLA was a fan-contest winner, but a quick internet search is not confirming this.

I don't know if you would consider it memorable but Years ago Erik Larsen had a create a character contest and the winner was to appear in his comic Savage Dragon. The trouble was that a few people complained that he stole some ideas and used it in his book without any compensation. What a mess. He never did anything like that again.

Ms. Tree had a contest to submit a solution to a Mike Mist story. I won an autographed TPB.

In the mid-40s, Fox Publications ran an essay contest in which readers were asked to identify their favorite Fox character and explain why that was their fave. The winners were written in as participants in one of that character's stories (kind of a booby prize, truthfully, given the appalling crappiness of those books). This was unusual for Fox, as previous contests were shams where no prize was ever awarded.

Wasn't there a contest involving Squeeks the Money form Boy Comics/Crimebuster where the prize was supposed to be a live monkey? I vaguely remember someone mentioning it here or on our old board home.
