I think I have to disagree with that statement. Team books like Avengers and FF introduced characters that spilled over onto other Books. Spider-Man had characters who did the same; for example, the Kingpin was a major Spider-Man villain, but he also migrated to Daredevil, where he gave that series one of its best/most significant runs. Of course, Norman Osborn has a greater effect on in-universe events beyond Spider-Man conflicts, and it goes without saying that the Punisher made his presence known beyond the title of his origin.

I think I have to disagree with that statement. Team books like Avengers and FF introduced characters that spilled over onto other Books. Some of those characters have gone on to be used in The Marvel film a and have jacked up the back issue prices. Spider-man has many first appearances but I dare say that the prowler is a minor character and not worth noting. Maybe the Prowler is a "minor character", but the prior issue goes for $30 mid-grade and the following issue goes for $15 mid-grade, so regardless of how minor Hobie Brown's alter-ego may be, his first appearance sells for more than twice what issue #77 does and almost 5x what issue #79 does. It's obvious people are willing to pay a premium for that book, and isn't that what the original question was, inquiring about pricy "run killing" key issues? It certainly goes for more than the first appearance of Algrim, who becomes Kurse ($20 in high grade) or Eric Masterson ($5). It's apples and oranges. The appearances of Kurse and Eric Masterson was published in the 80's-90's. I imagine all the characters , with a few exceptions that came out after the 80's not as popular in price as SA Spider-mans. I guess my view of it is that the first appearance of the prowler is simply riding the coat tails of the books surrounding it. Has that character been seen in the last 30 years?

I think if you're thinking about 'most key issues' you have to look at not first appearances.. that's not what makes it 'most key' since clearly every staple series had a ton of those.
What we're looking for is OTHER things that happen in the series that were notable... such as Thanos in Iron Man, Punisher in Spider-Man, Wolverine or Thunderbolts in Hulk, etc.
If you're strictly going by 1st appearances, I think it's DC Showcase for sure.

Prowler was notably the main villain in the recent movie 'Into the Spiderverse'. He also had a solo series relatively recently. I'd definitely say he's more important than Eric Masterson.

I didn't know that as I haven't seen that movie. That changes everything and accounts for the bump in the price of that book.

Slott featured Prowler as a supporting character near the end of his ASM run. He was a key supporting character in the Clone Conspiracy event (which lead into his short-lived solo title).

Depends what you mean by "key," but I wonder how Dell Four Color might rank in this.

I define key as a book that always retains its dollar value and collectibility.

Depends what you mean by "key," but I wonder how Dell Four Color might rank in this. Good point. Four Color launched at least three dozen series, including Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Uncle Scrooge, Little Lulu, Roy Rogers, Bugs Bunny, Turok, Raggedy Ann, and Alex Toth's Zorro.
