And I'm sure a ton more that I'm missing.

Damn guys. I'm unemployed at the moment and not have the time to try and compose such lists. You folks are "CRAZY" I must say.
But, just tossing out the idea that maybe Superman and Batman may qualify just by defacto their being around and published for so long? Between 1st appearances and key characters and moments they could overwhelm everyone else? Just saying...

What's really sad is, I did almost that entire list off the top of my head in less than 10 minutes, outside of checking the prices that I quoted and confirming the first appearances of Prowler and Hydro-Man. Less "CRAZY", more "COMPLETELY PATHETIC" that I store that much useless knowledge (or "junk", as my wife calls it) in my brain.

I'd go with this. Brave and the Bold puts in a respectable showing as well. 1st JLA, 1st Suicide Squad, 1st Teen Titans, 1st Silver Age Hawkman, 1st Metamorpho, 1st Bronze Age Green Arrow, 1st Neal Adams on Batman, 1st Batman and the Outsiders. Not a bad showing for a title whose first 25 issues consist of Robin Hood, Viking Prince, and The Silent Knight, and was mostly a Batman team-up title for the rest of its run.

Between 1st appearances and key characters and moments they could overwhelm everyone else? Just saying... If we were nominating single issues with the most key moments, Batman #1 might be the most significant boasting not only The Joker's first appearance but his second as well, plus The Catwoman's first. Batman #1 also recounts Batman's origin (for the second time, but still an important moment). As a matter of fact, I believe that Robin's debut was also scheduled for that issue until it was bumped to Detective Comics instead. Even the least important tale in that comic is regarded as a classic (the Hugo Strange outing which might be his most famous golden age appearance perhaps more for Batman's "much as I hate to take a human life..." gunning down monsters scene than for anything else).

No other Marvel title comes close.

I think I have to disagree with that statement. Team books like Avengers and FF introduced characters that spilled over onto other Books. Some of those characters have gone on to be used in The Marvel film a and have jacked up the back issue prices. Spider-man has many first appearances but I dare say that the prowler is a minor character and not worth noting.

Excellent choice. Often, people will overlook the anthology / "try-out" titles, but some of the most historic stories ever published can be found in that kind of title, particularly at DC, where its not just Showcase, but More Fun Comics, which introduced no less than Aquaman, Green Arrow and Speedy, The Spectre, Superboy, Johnny Quick and Doctor Fate, among others. That's a powerhouse title of key issues.

Maybe the Prowler is a "minor character", but the prior issue goes for $30 mid-grade and the following issue goes for $15 mid-grade, so regardless of how minor Hobie Brown's alter-ego may be, his first appearance sells for more than twice what issue #77 does and almost 5x what issue #79 does. It's obvious people are willing to pay a premium for that book, and isn't that what the original question was, inquiring about pricy "run killing" key issues? It certainly goes for more than the first appearance of Algrim, who becomes Kurse ($20 in high grade) or Eric Masterson ($5).

As a '70s-centric fan, as far as collecting I would personally find Amazing Spider-Man the most daunting financially... it seems like those Punisher issues are very pricey for someone who doesn't really dig the character that much, and the deaths of Gwen and the Green Gobin while once seeming real important seem a lot less so now, so went with the Marvel tales reprints (same for the first Man Wolf two-parter). I'm not sure if I could even afford the two '70s issues with Nightcrawler which I'd like to get (that Punisher guy again). I got really lucky with #200, and I did okay on #194 the first Black Cat, which is a character I wanted to collect. #201 and 202, even 203 I'm likely not willing to pay the asking price on. Amazing looks destined to be my most incomplete '70s title.
