REALLY loved that volume, and Kidd has since released subsequent volumes that I need to check out. It's amazing how, on the one hand, it's Atom Age campy, and on the other, darker and more kinetic than some of the stuff being published today. Lord Death Man...wow. And that's the most terrifying Clayface has ever been.

8 Man was the first anime I ever saw.

I only know of him through the Tobor The 8th Man cartoons (didn't the theme start out a lot like Car 54 Where Are You?)
I'd like to check out that Batman but I'm broke enough at the moment.

Bought/read that Bat-Manga hardcover a couple years ago. Wasn't as bizarre as I had anticipated, but interesting just the same.

I have fond childhood memories of that series, and it--like Speed Racer and Kimba the White Lion--were my introductions to anime in the early 1970s.
The Bat-Manga book was a joy to read; Kuwata's interpretation of the 1966 TV series, along with some US comic influences was--arguably--a more faithful mix than the Batman '66 series DC published.

Also did the manga adaptation of Gekko Kamen, aka Moonlight Mask, which was Japan's first superhero tv show, setting the stage for Kamen Rider, Kikaider, Ultraman and the Super Sentai/Power Ranger shows.
