Another splendid intellectual meeting of the classic comics minds. Would that qualify as a Close Encounter of the 4th Kind? We learned stuff too! Science lesson via Metal Men, Firestorm, Metamorpho talks. Geography of New York thanks to Spidey and FF. Music through movie lesson with Streets of Fire. We went viral over COVID choices as folks do or don't get vaccinated. And best of all we heaped more guilt on host George to try watching another move (aforementioned Streets of Fire) and to read a series he has not:Metal Men. Plus other gems of topics. You all are missing out on the fun if you don't Zoom along with us all. Try it, you might like it!

Along with Michael Pare, Willem Dafoe, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan, Bill Paxton, Robert Townsend and a Warriors connection with Deborah Van Valkenburg. Least but not last is the killer soundtrack by Jim Steinman (of Meat Loaf infamy) and an amazing neon neo-noir 1950/1960 backdrop. I saw it as a special one night viewing premiere to a packed walk in audience and received the LP as a freebie with the movie poster. Still have both to this day. A true you want see it on the big screen with the music thumping away in your head vibrating your cerebellum movie.

You all are missing out on the fun if you don't Zoom along with us all. Try it, you might like it! One point about vaccination... It's not really about protecting oneself, nor is it really about protecting others (although both are true, up to a certain degree). Vaccination is all about reaching herd immunity, that point where so many people are immune to a virus (either through vaccination or through having had the disease) that the virus, when it is found in one person, has nowhere to go. That's how we finally stop epidemics. The risk if we let epidemics go on, even if it is in a subdued fashion, is that one of the ever-present mutations the virus undergoes may render it able to make us sick despite being immune to an earlier strain. The longer the virus is around, the more likely it is to develop such a mutation (which is, unfortunately, heavily favoured by natural selection. By definition, a mutation that allows a virus to spread more efficiently will soon be dominant compared to other strains). China had the right approach (practically speaking), even if it was inimical to our love of individual liberty: everyone in the Wuhan region was forced to stay at home for weeks. No exception. That stopped the virus cold, because it had no place to go.

That stopped the virus cold, because it had no place to go. Right now, the US is having a big tournament, and the winner gets to be the last person to die of COVID. My advice to anyone aiming for the big prize is to keep wearing your mask for a year or two (at least) because it’s going to be with us for a while,

I'm just amazed George finally put stuff on that shelf behind him. All those zooms, I just kept looking at that empty beautiful wall shelf, trying to decide if it was an artistic statement.

and here's the track that Stevie Nicks went back years later and recorded (It was written for her, and you can totally tell they hired someone who sounds similar to Stevie to sing it when she declined - especially during the refrain)
Sorry I missed this Zoom meeting, or I would have come back real quick an slightly corrected you on this one.
This song sounds like a Stevie Nicks song becaus it actually IS a Stevie Nicks song. She wrote the song around 1971-72 during the Buckingham-Nicks era, well before their time with Fleetwood Mac. However, it did not appear on their only official album when it was released, but an early demo version was later released on the Deluxe Edition (not released in the US) and also on several early live bootlegs. I have a copy of the Tuscaloosa, AL show from early 1975 (right before the merger w/the Mac) that contains a rendition of this tune.
The song was actually included in the film because Jimmy Iovine was heavily involved with Jim Steinman in the supervision and production of the soundtrack, and coincidentally he also happened to be Nicks' go-to producer for her solo material. While Marilyn Martin sang the lead on the Streets of Fire film soundtrack, Nicks is actually singing on the backing vocals. Interestingly, Martin later provided backing vocals on Nicks' album, "Rock a Little".
