I'm curious: any reason why this particular review is recommended?
American Flagg! was quite a series. But then I love Chaykin's writing, as a rule.

Yeah, a bit more context would be good mrbrklyn. Just starting a new thread to post a video URL without any commentry of your own seems a bit lazy. If all you wanted to do was share the video, this could've easily gone in the Comic Titbits thread or somewhere similar.

I'm not sure what one is search for. It is an excellent review that penetrates the art of comic making and has a great explanation of the innovations of the Flagg! series, including the state of the art use of lettering and the use of visual confusion to produce ambience. There is not much for me to add to it. THe video stands on its own. I assume that folks are aware of the unique place that American Flagg! has in comic history. You don't need me to repeat it.

I usually enjoy hearing what my friends enjoy about about a book as much as the book itself so just a link to a video(even a good one) doesn't do too much for me personally, it certainly doesn't spark any conversation.

I think the issue at hand is not the content of the video; but, rather, that it was posted without comment to apply any context. It tends to stir more discussion when you add your own thoughts about the video clip or the subject of the clip. Also, it seemed like something that would fit better on the Classic Forum, since it discusses the comic book, rather than an adaptation of it (which sadly, never came about, though it was optioned by at least the early 90s).

I've mentioned the Cartoonist Kayfabe youtube channel before and posted one of their vids in the Comic Tidbits thread (with an introduction as to what it was and why I was posting it). It's a channel where comic creators Ed Piskor (of X-Men and FF Grand Design and Hip Hop Family Tree fame), and Jim Rugg (who I am not that familiar with his work), present, analyze, critique, and comment on the comics and comic-related material they love. I discovered their channel when they were covering some Alex Toth stuff (which is what I posted in the Tidbits thread)and have explored a little bit of their content, but not a lot.
youtube reviews/channels are usually a crapshoot. I don't like clicking on a channel I am unfamiliar with because I don't want their videos constantly popping up in my youtube feed if they wind up being a channel I don't want to support, so it's always helpful to give a little insight as to who the channel is/what it's about when posting a clip from one. If I hadn't already been familiar with Cartoonist Kayfabe, I would never have clicked on the link to watch the review without some kind of "letter of introduction" from the member here posting it letting me know what I was getting in to.

I was hoping it would be watched, because it is a rather detailed analysis of comics art critism, abd discuss the context of the video. But it seems that discussing the posting of the video has taken precedence. They guys make some very astute observations about the evolution and application of comics story telling and some well deserved criticism of the modern comics use of art in story telling. Flagg!! might have been the densest book ever done, panel by panel and page by page, of any comic ever done in terms of information packaging to serve the story line. Both Chaykin and Ken Bruzenak innovated multi techniques in the first 12 issues.
