Spinning out of a separate conversation about how to get more active members to join the community, your responses to the following questions would help us better determine why folks come to the CCF and how to attract new members more purposefully. So... 1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?) 2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that) 3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time? 4. What keeps you coming back? 5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is?

1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?)I believe I was looking for info about Claremont's X-Men, and a google search brought me to a post on CBR. I have no memory of the post/discussion, honestly. this would have been 15 years ago! 2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that)I honestly don't recall, though I can tell you I was big on online forums and had no qualms about leaping right into a community that interested me. 3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time?1. CCF 2. Facebook 3. ebay All my other online forum activity fell by the wayside ages ago. I only have time for the CCF these days. 4. What keeps you coming back? These days, this is my online family. 5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is?I wish we had more review threads that followed the community's suggested guidelines. Nothing wrong with the threads that don't, but I am constantly looking for more threads to promote on the front page and social media, and review threads that meet these criteria tend to draw a lot more visitors to the community.

1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?)
I have no idea how I discovered CBR. I'm not even sure it was technically CBR at the time, though I know that it wasn't still The Kingdom Come Message Board. I started there in either late '96 or very early '97 after I started law school. So I wasn't a Pantheon member but I was part of the second generation on the boards.
Oh...and it was better than Alvaros.
2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that)
At the time you didn't have to register. You just picked a name (you could pick a new one every post) and posted. I settled on Slam Bradley very early on. It just became my online home
3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time?
1. CCF (funnybook and book stuff) 2. Facebook (family stuff and oldie CBR stuff) 3. Twitter (political stuff)
There are other places I go but they are by and large not interactive.
4. What keeps you coming back?
The snacks. It's clearly the array of snacks.
5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is?
Half price drinks during Happy Hour.
(It's really pretty good. Not having political discussions is a plus.)

I discovered CBR while trying to learn more about that Kingdom Come comic I had just discovered; I did a search on that recent Google thingie (so much better than Yahoo or AskJeeves) and it took me there. I can't recall if it was still the Kingdom Come message board or had already taken the name Comic Book Resources, but I know that I became a regular when the front page got links to a few theme songs from old superhero TV shows. I left the community when I moved back to Canada in early 2001 (after discovering, much to my dismay, that I had worked right across the street from Fly on the Wall for years!), came back eight months later and became a mod soon after (on the Books board). Like many old timers here, I left CBR when the Classics board was wiped from existence. Jonah sold it soon after anyway. I lurked at first, just happy to learn about who was who in Kingdom Come, but eventually wanted to interact with those interesting people and discuss comics. I found that it was hard as a newcomer to be accepted at first, but that posting neutral stuff like quizzes (there was a Quiz discussion board) was a good way to start. Then got into long discussions with people like OzBat! about evolution, and once you interact with some of the veterans, people start talking to you. (My favourite memory at CBR was the masque organized on Halloween night in 2001; since there was no rule against multiple identities yet, we all registered under new names and spent the evening making nonsensical postsm trying to guess who each other was. I was quite proud to have been mistaken for Fenris all night, as he's a fellow I respected immensely.) CCF is clearly up there, sharing the top spot with Youtube, Wikipedia and Netflix. It's the only social network kind of place (in the sense of "actually writing something for others to read") that I frequent; I only use my blog to put up artwork and Facebook to advertise the blogs. The quality of our posters, of course! When I think of the sheer malevolent toxicity of a typical Youtube comment section, I bless the oasis of civility that is the CCF. And our members are remarkably knowledgeable! It's like shooting the breeze with a bunch of Alter Ego contributors without having to subscribe! (In the case of Cei-U it is literally true!!!) No. But then I am very bad at anything resembling promotion and am naturally wary of changing things when they work. I lack initiative in that way.

I'd forgotten about the Quiz Board. I was very active on the Continuity Board early on, which is pretty funny considering I have zero interest in superhero funnybook continuity any more.

1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?) I discovered CBR, specifically the Comics Should Be Good page, in about 2005 or so when I got back into reading comics after a long hiatus, and was looking for online places where comics, etc. were discussed. I have to say, though, that although I was registered, I only occasionally lurked at the CBR boards and I don't think I ever posted anything there. 2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that) Hmm. I registered here as soon as the site became operational, but didn't really decide to start posting until sometime in mid- or late 2016. That's mainly because several of the comic blogs I regularly frequented (mainly Bronze Age Babies), closed up shop at about that time, and I remembered that I was a member here. 3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time? Narrowing it down to interactive sites (as per Slam's response), then it's CCF, Facebook, Atomic Junk Shop, one Discord and one Slack group I belong to, and one or two old-fashioned comics/pop culture blogs I occasionally visit. 4. What keeps you coming back? At least one interesting comics and/or pop culture topic being discussed here every day. 5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is? Yes! More listicles and pop-up ads! Ha! Kidding. Honestly, no, none that I can think of at this moment.

CCF & Facebook.
4. What keeps you coming back?
It is a "break" from the real world.

1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?)
I don't really remember how I discovered CBR. Just searched for a comic book forum I suppose. I think I left after the reorganization of the forums there which made it less interesting.
2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that)
You invited me here.
3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time?
Facebook (I hate to admit) Goodreads
I don't spend too much time here, maybe check out a few threads a few times a day. There isn't enough activity to spend a lot of time here.
4. What keeps you coming back?
I have a review thread I'm working on. I'm not on any other comics forums. The cover contest thread is fun.
5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is?
Not really.

I'm so bad at these, but I'll try: 1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?)Discovered CBR way back when it was the Green & Purple Kingdom Come message boards. . spent a lot of time in the chat room back then (instead of working, since my office was WAY back in the warehouse, and I had a ton of free time. . I also used to write up hugely detailed comic reviews of each week's comics). After CBR got so toxic, Gail moved the YABS board to Bendis, and I went along with all my fellow YABS posters (many of whom are still my friends). When Bendis shut down those boards, since that got too toxic as well - we went to FB group, and I think around the same time I saw some mention of CCF, and peeked in and stayed. 2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that)See above 3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time?60% Facebook 30% Theme Park Review 8% CCF 2% "other" 4. What keeps you coming back?I enjoy some of the folks here. I like the cover contest. I like talking/reading about comics, and pop culture. 5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is?any way to have a Chat room?

Thanks for the replies thus far! So far, everyone we've heard from is a CBR vet. We have a TON of regulars who have joined us in the almost seven years since The Great Migration. Where are you folks at?

I need to know more about this! Easily, but it would be almost impossible to moderate.

how have you not seen me talk about TPR? I've been a member there for over a decade, and have gone on trips with them to visit Theme Parks across the USA & in 2019 went to Japan. I have several Trip Report threads, as do other.. go have a look. the forums are fantastic, and free to join (the Facebook page is great too, and I hang there, but the Forums are my "home") www.themeparkreview.com/

oh.. Robb (he and his wife Elissa run the place, and are both fun and fantastic folks) posts some of the *best* POV roller coaster videos on the internet. His videos often get used by many other places. . the Youtube channel is great too.
here's a video of me sitting next to him while he filmed Joker's Jinx at SFA back in 2018: (at the 2 minute mark is when he flips the camera around and shows us riding)
and here's video from 2019 in Japan - riding Hakugei in the rain! (I'm way back in the train, so not super visible except in brief glances. . but still, this was some wonderful memories, and it's So freaking funny - it started to rain the MOMENT we pulled out from the station, and poured the whole ride. . and STOPPED on the brake run):
on this one, rider view is first, with the POV at ~2:00

1. How did you first discover the CCF? (If you came here from CBR, how did you first discover CBR?) I came over from CBR. I think I might have discovered CBR from some other fansite that had a page of links, but it might have just been a result in a comics-related search on a search engine. I had taken a break from posting on CBR before one of the reboots. Then, I come back to see the Classics Board was replaced by the Collected Editions Board, which was really dead. Someone on CBR mentioned CCF (maybe in a DM/PM), and I found my way here.
2. What made you decide to register and post for the first time? (Again, if you came here from CBR, tell us that) I don't talk to folks IRL about comics, so I have to have someplace to share and discuss. Before CBR, I was posting at the now defunct Unofficial John Byrne Fan Site, but that place became less fun when JB himself showed up.
3. Where else do you spend a significant amount of time online? Where would you rank The CCF in terms of sites/apps that consume the majority of your screen time? Twitter in the main one as far as social interactions. Also, I read and edit Wikipedia. And my time is also spread on non-community type activities, like news/entertainment news/sports news/shopping.
4. What keeps you coming back? I like to hear about what people are up to and learn about comics. I like to share what I'm reading. I also like the discussion about comics-related film and TV
5. Any suggestions/recommendations for how to make the CCF an even better community than it already is? I suspect this is an issue with Proboards and my brain, rather than CCF, but I have the hardest time figuring out how to insert images here. That's why I post so few images (like photos in the Purchased thread). When I do insert a photo, it seems like a convoluted process that I totally forget immediately after. But if it was easier, that would be cool.
