Has there ever been collected volumes of the early issues? Yes, quite a few actually. The most recent is the Ultimate Collection, which are fairly priced at around $30 each. They are beautiful hardcovers too.

I believe there's five or six. I also have the first three, I had the fourth but it arrived damaged so I returned it. Also, there was a production error with volume four that I don't think they plan to fix. The toning is missing from several pages. I believe the series is complete now.

What's the deal with the first having red text? Is that a later printing?

What's the deal with the first having red text? Is that a later printing? I don't believe so, mine has the red text and I got it shortly after it came out.

Mine has red text but it's the black and white cover variant so I thought that was why. Appears they all do though.

While the original cartoon series made me aware of the existence of the Tutles it wasn't until I found these four colorized volumes of the comic series that I became a fan After that I enjoyed the First of the three original Turtle films (the sequels not so much) and the second more serious animated series from the mid 2000's was much closer in tone to the comics.

Those books were my first experience with the Turtles as well.

Those books were my first experience with the Turtles as well. For some reason, I only ever found Book II and Book IV when they first hit shelves. Incredibly frustrating.

Oh, man, I was right in the target age when Turtlemania exploded. I was obsessed with the cartoon, the toys, and the video games. I remember that NES game.GEEZ that thing was insanely hard, but the arcade game? That was like heaven on Earth. I felt like I was playing the cartoon. The first movie was really good and holds up surprisingly well. I LOVED the second movie as kid and made the mistake of rewatching as an adult...alas, that one does not hold up well. The third one is surprisingly good as it seems to know it's campy.
The TMNT animated film was decent, and unless I'm dragged by someone I'm not seeing the Michael Bay one. I haven't really read the comics, though I'm interested in one day checking out the Eastman-Laird stuff.

The turtles arcade game was, by far, my favorite arcade game of all time, as well as the only one I've ever taken the time to beat...twice.

That NES game was impossible, I don't think I ever made it past the first stage.
I loved all the mortal combat style Turtles games that have come out over the years, especially the one for the wii that came out just after the animated film.

Just dropping to say that the new Usagi Yojimbo Saga book that Dark Horse just released begins with the Mirage series. The first storyline features the TMNT travelling to Usagi's world and helping him defend a village. It's great stuff... like all of Usagi.
I vaguely remember that my younger brother had a Usagi action figure growing up that was part of the TMNT line. I didn't know who that was at the time.

That NES game was impossible, I don't think I ever made it past the first stage. I was eventually able to halfway consistently make it to entering the Technodrome, but after that? Forget it. I actually saw one kid beat the game sometime. I wouldn't have believed it was possible if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Even the kid told me it was a 50/50 chance he would lose anyway because that's just how it goes. That game was insane.
