Apparently this phenomenon of rising prices is not limited to comics. The Associated Press reported yesterday that Collectible prices skyrocket, to the dismay of hobbyists. "Americans have become obsessed with collectibles, bidding up prices for trading cards, video games and other mementos of their youth. [...] But while some collectors and investors see dollar signs, others complain about the breakdown of their tight-knit communities. Players looking to play in-person again after the pandemic are unable to find the game pieces they want; if the pieces are available, prices have gone up astronomically."

Baseball (and other sports) cards are among the collectibles that have seen an upsurge, apparently driven to a great extent by hedge fund-types. www.bostonglobe.com/2021/08/26/sports/sports-cards-pandemic-surge/?p1=Article_Inline_Related_Link

So a 9.6 CGC copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 just sold for $3.6 million at Heritage Auctions, the highest price any comic has sold for, getting more than the most expensive copy of Action #1 has had a recorded sale for ($3.35 million for a GCG 8.5). Aside from the actual price achieved (which is insane), it's significant that a Silver Age book is not worth more in actual sales achieved than any Golden Age book. -M

If I had 3.6m 'discretionary capital' I'd definitely buy it....this book will always be money in the bank, and there's also the bragging rights of owning it.

If I had a billion dollars I'd definitely buy it. And the rest of the series. And I'd still be RICH!!!

I am willing to bet George bought ad space, posted a fake movie posting just to cash in the sudden rush to try and find copies. Nobody ever thought to check dollar bins?!? Our man Icc is a sly sneaky government employee!!!

Don’t be a hater because you missed out …
If you send them all off to get slabbed, you just might get them back in time for the film release in about 2 years.

This is exactly why I bought an Everdrive for my Sega Genesis and a Pocket Go. I want to actually play the games, not stuff them in plastic tombs for the sake of dollar signs. But then again, that's just me

You can throw a dart and pick a copy on ebay right now. There's no shortage of copies to be sure and prices are all over the place. I am sure the guys who jumped on paying $40+ are shaking their heads at the BIN $10 listings and all the copies sold around $10 right now. So we'll see how it all shakes out, and how the vast supply of available books affects the demand curve and prices over the long haul. But if you're selling, throw your copies in the ring now while they are selling like hotcakes at 10-20X what most people paid for copies in the last 20 years.

Believe it or not, I still have a perfectly functioning Sega Nomad AND Genesis console.
