I've never really liked the Eternals in the comics, so no real interest in the movie unless it totally wows me in the trailer, and that sure didn't... looks downright boring.
The recent wave of Marvel movies haven't hinted at any interconnectedness, so definitely a pass for me so far. While I love the concept of expirmentation, I really just don't have alot of interest in seeing properties made into a movie that can't even carry a comic.

The recent wave of Marvel movies haven't hinted at any interconnectedness, so definitely a pass for me so far. While I love the concept of expirmentation, I really just don't have alot of interest in seeing properties made into a movie that can't even carry a comic. That's where I think there is better potential for a filmmaker and team to do something with a property, provided they can find the right story idea. Take Men In Black, for example. It was a minor indie comic, from Malibu, with a pair of 3-issue mini-series that even the comic market largely ignored. The comics were entertaining enough but didn't really have legs for an ongoing series. Enter screenwriter Ed Solomon and director Barry Sonnenfeld and you end up with something that gets a big studio budget, excellent casting and turns out to be a massive hit, creating a franchise. I think there is a lot of untapped movie gold in a lot of lesser Marvel and DC properties, particularly in their non-superhero comics. Not necessarily Eternals, though I think you could get an excellent film trilogy out of it by adapting Kirby's themes, though pared down to the essential plotlines and characters. Putting that aside, who wouldn't like to see an adaptation of Tomb of Dracula? Killraven? How about a Marvel western? What about the New Universe properties, as a potential tv series? The Ultraverse and other Malibu properties? Granted, the latter I think would feel less, though specific characters could work within the MCU, if you wanted. Dominic Fortune would be a great swashbuckling throwback style adventure, in the spirit of Indiana Jones.

Hopefully this film forces people to get out of their comfort zone more. I'm beside myself to a degree having a chuckle reading about all of the "it looks boring" takes from the teaser. I guess people were expecting folks in the trailer to be running from things? Kevin Feige and his band of creative yahoos have gained enough clout ater 20 plus movies to give them the benefit of the doubt in my book.
As for Kirby, love him in doses, but he wasn't beyond reproach. So it's not exactly like Kirby's vision which was initially cancelled after 20 issues because no one cared. The casual public knows nothing about the Eternals, so Marvel had more creative freedom to shake things up to fit within the MCU which is different than the comic universe in itself. Maybe consider judging the movie on it's own merit instead of what Jack Kirby would have done. It might turn out better than his initial ideas.

I guess the amount of prestige that Marvel Studios has accrued over the last decade is paying off now by having such big name actors like Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek be in your films. However, that can be distracting because at the moment, all I see in this trailer is that's Angelina Jolie and not as her playing Thena instead.
Although, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman? Ok, my attention and curiosity are piqued now, what does the Black Knight have to do with the Eternals, hm?

I'll probably see this one mostly because of Salma Hayek and Gemma Chan, two of my favourite actresses. I don't think it has anything to do with Kirby's Eternals so that aspect would be more of a deterrent than a draw for me personally.

Really underwhelming hard for me to get excited about this. I definitely watch it though when it's free on Disney+.

The Black Knight seems to come from an 80s or 90s Avengers storyline in which the Eternals made an appearance. Haven't read it myself, just heard about it online.
I'm not an Angelina Jolie fan so her casting was a negative for me. And like a lot of fans, I think Salma Hayek would have been better cast as Sersi than as Ajak. I think Gemma Chan, though she obviously has a completely different look to the comics character, could have done a good Thena in terms of personality. Coincidentally, she has actually played the goddess Athena in a stage drama.

I havent read it either, but wasn't Sersi involved with Dane Whitman for a while? He might just be "Sersi's mortal boyfriend" in this one.
