I'd forgotten that the big reveal was supposed to happen. This is of zero interest to me, but neat for people who are in to it. The 3.75 inch Joes came out well after I was done with toys, so this hits no nostalgia buttons for me. And there are already more new Megos than I've been able to justify buying of stuff I want.

Boy how lazy has Hasbro become that it's easier to license out to Mego than create your own product? The future of toys and comics? Outsourcing is the new process!

I have no interest in it either, except in that it establishes a working relationship with Hasbro, and Hasbro has other properties I would like to see as Megos, and I hope this can open possibilities for those (and no I don't mean Star Wars and Marvel like every frickin' Mego collector thought this announcement was going to be, but things like Micronauts which were originally a Mego property and Dungeons and Dragons since Hasbro/WotC already announced a new product next year that features some of the cartoon villainous characters and is pushing Dragonlance and Drizzt hard next year. Trying my hand at making custom Megos of the Dragonlance characters or other D&D related stuff has been a back burner consideration for a while).
G.I. Joe would only interested me if they revisited Adventure Team or Super Joe as well, but I am hoping this succeeds and establishes a working relationship with HAsbro/WoTC. but after the Lord of the Rings line was canned after 2 figures because of poor sales, I am not getting my hopes up.

Boy how lazy has Hasbro become that it's easier to license out to Mego than create your own product? The future of toys and comics? Outsourcing is the new process! It's dollar and cents not laziness. The collector's market companies like Super7 and Mego target do not move enough units to make it profitable for a large company like Hasbro to make money on it, and there hasn't been enough demand at the retail level for this property to move enough products to make it profitable for Hasbro to produce products at the retail level for a while. So rather than let the property lie fallow and completely unexploited, you license to smaller companies that can profit at the niche collector level and make something off the property. Hasbro makes money selling toys that sell more because people actually play with them i.e. they sell to kids and families. G.I. Joe isn't going to sell to kids and families, just collectors, so they license it to companies that produce products only collectors are going to buy. -M

So, yeah. And, as best I can tell, the new iteration of Mego is moving their product to their market. The most recent waves have been darn hard to find if you don't pre-order. In theory I'd still love to see some Marvel Megos. But, on the other hand, the only DC one I've bought so far is The Riddler because I never had him as a kid...and I didn't like the sculpts on any of the others.

Mego has made it to retail-Target, Walmart and Meijer carry them, but of those only Meijer still has them in the toy aisle. Target and Walmart stock them in the collectibles section which is usually in with their electronics not toys. And its only select Walmart and Target stores that carry them, so it still can be hard to find. On top of that, scalpers and ebay sellers who don't have wholesaler accounts (which often those who work at places like Target and sell toys online as a side hustle) scoop up the meager shipments those outlets get before the general public gets a chance to find/purchase them at retail (which is a whole other conversation about the modern toy market). -M

Not the one in my town. They do, ostensibly, have them at the Walmart in Twin Falls, but I've only looked once and it was empty pegs. I tend to avoid Walmart like the plague (though that isn't a very meaningful phrase nowadays). All I've seen at the Target there are beat up early wave Target exclusives.

I’m curious to see if these sell, because while the GI Joe cartoon/toy line was very much a part of my childhood, Mego were already “old” toys. Feels like two separate eras of nostalgia, but I could be way off.
There does seem to be a lot of GI Joe lines right now, though. In addition to Mego, I can think of Super 7, Kotobukiya, Mezco, PCS, 1000Toys, Diamond Select, Hasbro’s Classified, and even the 3.75 (but those may just be con exclusives and such).

Super7 is releasing the new 3.75s. It's really odd being a member of toy groups right now and seeing the group-think. Folks can't get enough G.I. Joe merch right now even though there is so much of it (not to mention so much vintage stuff out there). It really is a "gotta catch em all" mentality that I just don't understand, so companies are going to capitalize on that as best as they can until the well dries up.

The Super7 3.75 are different. Hasbro has done some as well, complete with the old school packaging. Although, as I look on BBTS the only one I see is gold Destro, so perhaps it was a one-off.

The 2007 convention one (it also has the affectionate nickname "pimp daddy" Destro)? That's "new old stock", BBTS has a little bit of inventory here and there like this even though they primarily sell new releases. The old school packaging of that one was part of the 25th anniversary series, I've got a couple of these including Storm Shadow and a Crimson Guard figure. Edit: Just found my Crimson Guard figure, here's the front along with the back showing other figures from the line:

Do those have the same build as the classic toys, with the screws and rubber bands, or are they just like small Legends now? I remember me and my buddies used to get those little screwdrivers for glasses and make our own custom GI Joes. Frankenjoes, if you will.

Different molds, and the articulation is a little different like the torso area. They are in the category of "great packaging", "so-so figures" to me. I don't think I've got any of these loose so not sure on the screws/rubber bands, but I would love to see a true period correct spec on a reissue. Though I'm skeptical there as well on quality, I've got the first wave of the Star Wars Retro figures (retro cards AND molds) from Hasbro, but the blasters won't stay in the hands of figures who have them (they look good, just not molded quite right).
