Really enjoyed the first episode. Captain Carter is a badass.

Both of my daughters really enjoyed this, but I sat it out. I'm just not much of a cartoon guy any more (although I love Lego Batman Movie), so this has limited appeal to me.

You should give it a go as it's only 30 minutes. Doesn't feel out of step with the MCU, and it seems like it's going to connect more than I initially thought it would. For the What If premise I think animation would be the only way to go about it anyway. Since would be weird to do a single film on a What If scenario. Which is funny that I say that, because word on the street is that Marvel is staying frosty about potentially making something more out of one of these short stories. BTW, not to make a mountain out of a molehill, but I'm so curious I have to ask...what is it about animation that just isn't your sandbox anymore? You are still into video games and comic books right?

You are still into video games and comic books right? I can't really put my finger on it. It just...isn't. Loved cartoons growing up. Watched Batman: TAS when I was in college. Still like a good animated movie (Pixar or otherwise), but as for 30-minute TV cartoons, the only recent one that I've really enjoyed is Gravity Falls, which was witty and weird and told a self-contained story over two seasons and then it ended. I've had no interest in watching any of the Star Wars or Marvel properties that have been done in the past 10 years, even though I am a huge fan of both universes.

Too bad... the Star Wars stuff is great. I'll probably watch this when I sit down to watch the Bad Batch finale tonight

I thought the first episode played it a little too note for note with the first Captain America movie at times but the characterization for Peggy as Captain Carter was great and I loved Steve as the Hydrastomper.

Watched the first two episodes last night with my younger daughter.
First episode was just OK. It was kind of like the old joke about Raiders of the Lost Ark, in that Indiana Jones isn't actually necessary to the story, because the Nazis were always going to melt their faces off after they found and opened the Ark of the Covenant whether Indy was involved or not. They didn't change anything significant about the original story other than gender-reversing the roles, having a weird monster attack, and giving us a pre-Tony Stark "Iron Man" suit from his dad. There was no "the world is completely different now because of this"; the good guys won, the bad guys lost, and there was one "person out of time" left at the end.
Second episode was FAR superior. They showed a universe ABSOLUTELY being changed by the one minor alteration in the original concept, and it had a lot of the quirky Guardians of the Galaxy vibe while still being its own new story. It was wonderful, and very sad, to hear Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa one last time. Gone way, way, way, way too damn soon. F@$k cancer.

The third episode was remarkable. I felt so dumb that I couldn't figure it out after the reveal.

The Doctor Strange episode felt like it actually could have been the plot of an actual film, man that was a fantastic story!

Anyone else get the feeling that we might see some of these alternate versions of characters forced to team up to fight zombie Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet in the finale?

Anyone else get the feeling that we might see some of these alternate versions of characters forced to team up to fight zombie Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet in the finale? I think it's a pretty good possibility. As for the latest episode with Killmonger? While there were scenes that were neat, and I still love the visual look this one didn't connect with me at all. What if...the Bad Guy won and got everything he ever wanted...just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I love this series, even though I didn't expect to. It really captures the spirit of the comics' original run (not just "imaginary stories", but alternate stories that hang on one crucial moment). Just like the original What if..?, that allows the actual MCU to be explored in more detail. That the characters be mostly voiced by the films' actors is an absolute treat. I choked up hearing Chadwick Boseman's voice again! One thing I didn't get, though, is why in the zombie episode Vision acted the way he did. I mean, sure, some kind of motivation is given, but come on... {Spoiler: Click to show} there are other ways to feed a hungry mouth than that! If regular food won't do it, how about live animals instead of bits and pieces from a comrade? I'm not sure I want these stories to be revisited, even if several of them open the door to a lot more development; I'm fine with leaving a story open ended.

I really, really wanted to like this series because I'm a big fan of the original comics and the whole Watcher concept, but outside of the Guardians ep I've haven't really been digging it. Most of the What If? hooks just haven't intrigued me. Plus, while I usually find the humor charming, for whatever reason in this setting I find the non-stop jokes grating. Maybe the last episodes will interest me more

Episode 7 was a riot, and I was surprised by the huge cast (especially as most of the characters were once again voiced by the live-action films actors). So many characters didn't need to be present, but were there anyway... It suggests that Disney is ready to invest a pretty penny in What if..?.
This series is like having a box full of toys and just playing with them. It's more fun than a barrel of monkeys!

I got caught up with the series last night. Mostly enjoyed the subsequent episodes, after the premiere; but nothing that blew me away. The Thor one is a hoot, though. So, I see Killmonger made admiral (4 stars even!). Apparently, his warfare specialty was flower arranging, or something... Also looks like he won an award from the Galactic Empire (top row, third from left). Someone might want to let the animators know that, in the US Navy, we only wear a t-shirt under the "choker-white" blouse, not a button-up.
