Feels like Aquaman has moved into this category as well. "Arthur Curry - the aqua-man!!" Hopefully that was just a JL movie thing though. Probably an attempt to make the character seem more serious but i think it just came across as even sillier. But i still like the movie version of the character, anyhow.

I've really only heard it with Batman, and I don't care for it. Well, there's also The Flash, The Shadow, and The Cat. "Here comes The Shadow. He'll know what to do." sounds okay, but nobody addresses another character using the article, as in "Hi, The Cat. What's new?" It al depends on how they were originally named. The problem with Batman is that he was often referred to in the early stories as "The Batman" or even "The Bat-Man," as if he were almost a supernatural creature. Always made me think of how a character might refer to a vampire as "the vampire."

"The Thor" just makes it sound like you have a stutter.

Only when applied to Batman. And only in conjunction with "goddamn."

I think my beloved Legion of Super-Heroes would sound so much more epic with more "the's":
THE Bouncing Boy THE Matter-Eater Lad THE Proty (II)
And going forward...I wish to be known as THE Supercat!!
