Like a lot of kids my first introduction to the character was the 1989 Playmates TMNT action figure. I instantly loved the character design but didn't find interest in the books until later. Recently I picked up this collection from Amazon and scored this tshirt on TeePublic. (I tried ordering one from Stan's shop but couldn't find any in 3X.) I think there's a volume before this but not finding any luck finding it. Otherwise happy with my purchases and looking forward to reading this.

What comes before that volume is all the Albedo/Critters and Fatagraphics issues of Usagi. They were collected into 7 trades or the Special Edition. IDW is currently reprinting those stories (and issuing new collections of them) in color. -M

You can find all the stories prior to that volume collected here. It's also available as a digital bundle. While Usagi absolutely gets better and better as it goes, there are a lot of fantastic moments in those earlier stories. I also strongly recommend you check out Space Usagi along the way! You can find a (nearly) complete index of every Usagi story, as well as links to discussions about those stories, here. I'm so jealous that you get to experience these for the first time!

The next steps in my journey are Usagi's first. I was a little hesitant about reading this in color but it's gorgeous and still has the same whimsical charm as black and white.
