Was expecting them to have more stuff though, but I guess the fact that everyone and their mother has a streaming service now kind of hurt them in that respect. At least they have a lot of older shows and movies, can't say that much for Hulu. Still think that it's bonkers that you have to pay $12 for no ads. What's the point in paying for the basic $6 package then? Oh well, at least I have every season of Power Rangers, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, some anime and cartoons, and a bunch of movies (some Kung-Fu, some not) to keep me happy, among other things
Yeah, with the streaming industry fracturing and everyone trying to get their piece of the pie, no one service is a catch-all anymore. The good thing/trick is to not sub them all constantly, just swap them out since there are no contracts. In my case, we have Netflix and Hulu year round. Netflix has something for everyone and we like some of their exclusive shows. Hulu is good because we don't have cable or a good antenna for the networks. That pretty much covers those shows for us plus no commercials. If you have Cable Hulu is pretty much pointless. We've swapped in HBO or YouTube Premium or whatever for a month at a time here and there for this show or that. We have Disney+ free for a year with our phone plan. We also got Amazon's VOD included free with our Prime membership, but I am trying to phase them out as their business practices get more light shone upon them. We too got it free for a year. And that's about what it's worth to me. I liked The Mandalorian, but that's pretty much all I've watched on it. No way I would actually pay for it.

Yeah, my kids are both under 6 so we will probably get a lot more mileage out of it. For me personally, aside from the Mandalorian and scratching my nostalgia itch for the first month or two, there's not much appeal.

And some Pixar shorts. It's not like there's absolutely nothing on it I want to watch. There's just not enough to justify paying for it.

I have netflix, which I find has far more anime than one would expect... I probably wouldn't stick with Crunchyroll if I didn't need to make sure my oldest daughter didn't destroy another computer looking for obscure anime on illegal sites. I agree with slam on Disney Plus.. I watched Mandolorian with my free trial, and poked at a few things, but nothing I thought I needed to pay for. They're apparently going to have the original cast of Hamilton doing the show for the 4th of July, so I'll probably have my daughter or wife sign up for another week free trial for that to poke in and see if there's anything else. I'd at least give CBS a free trial to watch Picard if I could make it play on my TV, but that seems not to be a viable option with the technology I have, and my wife won't be happy if I watch it without her

Yeah, fair enough. We watched some of the old Goofy documentaries and some old Donald Duck cartoons. There a few cartoons from our childhood that were interesting for a few minutes. I already have pretty much all the good seasons of The Simpsons and major animated movies I want on my self-run media server, so it's pretty redundant for me. It's mildly convenient having so much in one spot, but yeah, if not for my kids being so young I doubt I would pay for it. There's a crap load of content for them on there. I'll get around to that some time.

I finished up what is available of Schitt's Creek (all but the last season I think) on Netflix. I went in with fairly low expectations as I've been generally burnt out on sit-coms since the early 80s. After a little struggle with the first season I have to say it's a damn fine show. Eugene Levy and Catherine O'hara are delightful (though O'Hara's character still is a lot to take).
The big thing for me is that there is good qualitative organic character growth for the main characters. And it doesn't delve into maudlin dramedy in order to make them grow. There are still episodes that make me wince with sit-comness. But overall it's a fine show.

But yeah, as much as I like Disney and a good bit of Marvel, there's not much meat on the bone for me personally to warrant a subscription. Maybe that'll change in the future, who knows?

Correct, which is part of why I still use the ones I ripped myself from my DVDs. Correct aspect ratios.

Correct, which is part of why I still use the ones I ripped myself from my DVDs. Correct aspect ratios. Disney's also been "enhancing" some of their films too

So I'm watching the first episode of Mad Men and while it is a great concept for a show, I'm finding the sexism a little intolerable (had the same problem with Anchorman as well). I'm aware that it's a period piece and while do agree that it should try and stay faithful to the nature of the times, it feels ill advised to beat you over the head with the fact that Women were considered less than people back then

You just have to accept that times were different. And at the risk of spoilers both Peggy and Joan have better character growth arcs than any men in the show.

At least in Anchorman it is satirical so you have that to look forward to?

Oh, I do. And I'm not a person who generally gets upset by stuff like that, but IDK That you notice the sexism but the characters don’t is part of the point. Exactly, it's one of the most important themes behind the whole show and I though it was often handled with great subtlety. By which I mean that it isn't just the obvious stuff they hit you over the head with, there's a lot of little things that aren't necessarily emphasised or talked about in terms of sexism but that are still connected to that problem if you look a little beneath the surface.
