The title says it all. We all have those elusive white whales of classic comics you want to purchase or probably pick up cleaner copies of existing copies you might have but those summbitches just evade you at every turn; lose an eBay auction, went to a convention held off on book and came back and its sold.... Post your classic comics white whales. It can be stuff you want or dream of, but I'd love to hear what comics hold you back from being content. Here's one of mine: Aside from Showcase 4, this is one of the hardest ones to find. Been looking forever; could've had one back in 2002 at a show. Alright, Classic Comics Ahabs, let's see your whales. - Ryan

Owned it and sold it. Didn't think that was scarce when I bought 40 years ago. Wasn't that originally done for Dell comics and for some reason it fell into DC's lap?

OK we're talking the same thing. This issue was first published in the UK by Classics Illustrated. DC published it in the US with some editing. Someone missed a deadline in what was supposed to appear in that issue of Showcase and DC quickly got the rights to plug their schedule hole.My error,Dell was not involved at all

I don't have one. I honestly don't have a collector bone in my body at this point. I guess if there were something I wanted to read that I couldn't figure out a way to read.

Boy Comics #10 Hard to find, and on the very rare occasions one does come up for sale, it's significantly over guide. Guide value is pointless on this issue. it's got a black cover, but more importantly, a classic World War II Nazi cover. All those WWII cover collectors are all over it, and they don't let it out of their hands once they have it. I've been watching ebay for a copy for two years and have only seen one. That was a Fair/Good- copy with pieces out of the cover and very iffy page quality and it sold for $200. Someday I'll find a solid copy I can afford!

The original magazine sized Elflord series. I've found one issue to date, been at it for years.

I haven't been on the chase long enough to consider it a "white whale", but I've lost several ebay attempts to acquire Dell's comic book adaptation of the 1966 John Wayne movie, El Dorado. It's only on my radar because it was ghost pencilled by Jim Aparo (for Sal Trapani), back in the infancy of Aparo's comic career. There's also an issue of World's Finest I want, because I'm convinced that Aparo also ghost pencilled that one. Editor Jack C. Harris denied it when I asked, but I trust my eyes to know that a swiping artist could not possibly have appropriated not just Aparo's superficial qualities but the very compositional foundations of his technique.
