Also, the first Angry Youth Comix series. I've only been able to find the last issue, but I saw that I missed out on the first issue for a ridiculously low price around 8 months back. Yeah, those early Fantagraphic issues of AYC are tough to find. I picked those up when they came out. The self-published ones by Johnny Ryan are even tougher to get. I have a decent little collection of self published Johnny Ryan comics, maybe ten in total. They are tough to get, I think his typical print run was 250, and he's got a bit of a following.

There are definitely strip reprint books that I want that I can't afford. There are any number that have gone out of print before I could get them at my price and then gone way up in price. Name some of these Slam. You never know

I had to buy a couple from Johnny personally when he had some. The full size edition of Bruce Timm: Naughty and Nice. Hardcover or Softback?

Exactly. No way I'm paying anywhere close to 300 bones for any book. I'm a cheapskate.

One day when I'm in the bigger leagues, I still haven't crossed $1k for a book yet... This was Nicholas Cage's copy at one point, I think....

Showcase #22 is probably the book I hope the most to one day own. Too bad it's insanely expensive even in fair condition.

The one that has escaped me so far is Savage Tales #1. I think I have every other b&w magazine that Marvel published up to May 1978. I even have both issues of their prose fiction digest Haunt of Horror. I've probably got all of the contents of ST #1, I think all of the stories have been reprinted. But I'd still like to have a copy of the original magazine.
From the same era, I'd love to find affordable copies of Kirby's two magazines for DC, In The Days Of The Mob and Spirit World.

I've certainly had comics I was obsessed with finding. There were some 1980 Whitman comics of the Disney characters that were very challenging to find.
To me, though, they never seemed like "white whales." Yes, the obsession was there, but it was different from Captain Ahab's obsession—he was obsessed with finding his whale to destroy it.
I have tended to think more in terms of grail comics, referring of course to the medieval searches for the one deemed "holy." Once that object was found (had it ever been found), its finders would have treasured it and preserved it, and protected it from harm. That's how I have dealt with the objects of my obsessive searches.
Other opinions?

I purchased some of my White Whales in X-Men 109,DD 168 and 181. So now think really clean copies of Avengers 92-95. That's the elusive part. VF or higher at reasonable prices.

I did get In The Days Of The Mob at Emerald City Con - was it last year or the year before? Anyway, it was great reading it. Still looking for the other two.
