World's Finest #1Written by Mark Waid Art by Dan Mora Summary: When Metallo poisons Superman with a cocktail of Red Kryptonite it's up to Batman, Robin...and the Doom Patrol(!?) to save him. Plot: Simply put the world of comics(and DC in particular) needs more books like this one. In a single issue Waid manages to bring in everything that was great about the more innocent age of comics of years gone by that is just pure unbridled fun without senseless death and grittiness. It's just a fun, silver age romp from start to finish that makes you feel like you should chomp on a fistful of popcorn before turning each page. It's Superman, Batman and Robin together against Metallo and Poison Ivy...and then the Doom Patrol shows up to lend a hand to the very unwell man of steel. It's simple and to the point but the quick pace and fun, snappy dialogue are a perfect combination. This is seriously the best superhero comic I've read since 2016's Future Quest, so if you love just plain old time fun and bright optimistic heroes you need to pick this up pronto! I've long said Nightwing is the best thing DC is doing but this toppled Dick from the throne. Art: Dan Mora does a perfect job of capturing the pure optimism of Waid's plot. His art is crisp, bright and clean and he is comfortable portraying both the energy and lightness of Batman and Robin’s acrobatic movements and Superman's odd mix of weightlessness and heavy, ponderous power. It's a balancing act that is seldom done right but Mora nails it in every panel. This is really a case of a perfect issue. Grade:11/10

Totally agree. Perfect issue from cover to cover. Great characters. Great concept & ideas. Great writing. Great art. I also love that it takes place in the past when Dick was still Robin and Alfred was alive and the Daily Planet was a big part of the Superman mythos.
The cover sums up the book perfectly:
Reading this reminded me of how I felt reading the Untold Tales of Spider-Man back in the 90s.

NIGHTWING #90.Written by Tom Taylor. Art by Geraldo Borges.
Last issue guest starred Jon Kent/Superman Jr. This issue has Wally West/Flash stopping by.
Dick is a constant target due to his involvement in improving Bludhaven with the fortune Alfred left him. Obviously this cant continue and Taylor brings in Wally to help Dick get to the bottom of this after someone blows up his apartment building.
With innocent people being put in danger because of him Dick & Wally's investigation leads them to the KGBeast.
As usual Taylor excels at pulling in Nightwing's friends and allies and nailing what makes the characters iconic & classic.

This has been such an amazing run. Also, I think this is the third time Dick has been wearing a t-shirt referencing DC comics...it's fun but a little weird.

Sword of Hyperborea #3Written by Mike Mignola Art by Lawrence Campbell Summary: From the depths of the English Channel the sword of Hyperborea passes into a new set of hands during the height of WWII. Plot: Although there are a few scenes aboard the Brotherhood of Ra's ship that really sing and deliver some fun, snappy Indiana Jones like dialogue the majority of the book is really disjointed. When does the book signing take place? Is that where Olssen was recruited? Did it occur after he was stranded on the bottom of the English Channel? It's not clear, and what's more the part that seems like the most fun, Olssen as the defender of Atlantis is just glanced briefly before we see him wash up on a tropical island which really seems like its burying the lead to me...and then after that we see him as a washed up shell of himself as a bar owner and then he gets robbed of the sword by an unknown man. So we miss out on the action, the character's path isn't clear and ultimately it feels like a chapter in the sword's history that doesn't matter. There's so much potential here...but it's a huge miss which is crazy frustrating. Art: What's even more frustrating than the story missing the interesting parts is the fact that it means we miss out on Campbell getting to draw awesome scenes of a guy in deep sea diving gear fighting sea monsters with a sword...which should be a crime. The tease we got was stunning so that the story veered away from that is horrible as Campbell misses out on getting to let loose and do wild crazy fun.
Grade: 6/10 because of what fun Campbell was able to bring to the page... but only one point for the story itself.

I would buy this comic every day if a could.. Dick Grayson far and away the most interesting thing in the DCU. I can't decide if I WANT him to take over the Justice League during this next event or not. Seems like it would make sense, but I'm not sure I want someone else writing him.

I just realized I forgot to grad World's Finest, darn it! Maybe I'll wait for the trade.
I think Robin #13 came out this week (I got 3 weeks of books today)... totally a filler issue, but some good character bits and (for now) Alfred is staying dead.

It was this current week, but yeah Robin was a little bit of a filler before the next event. And while I was glad Alfred wasn't brought back with some Lazarus juice I do want him back pronto.
