I don't know how many of you watch Arrow (or have read the various related titles to the characters therein over the years)
But Prior to the Mike Grell years the Green Arrow Black Canary relationship was one of the most solid non-marriages around.
My first exposure to the couple was through the Green Lantern/Green Arrow trade paperbacks as well as a handful of World's
Finest Comics where they each had a story (or they alternated0
After The Grell years however it seemed that there was a concentrated effort to keep them spart and every time they'd get back
together, the Powers that Be would find some way for them to split up again (usually it would be Ollie's fault for being either too
libidiousor too hot-headed.
one particular poster on Facebook made this comment as Laurel (aka Dinah Laurel Lance) trains with Ted Kord and draws closer
to becoming the Black Canary and how other fans seem to insist that will re-ignite the relationship between her and Oliver.
"What about those of us who have read the 'source material' and found the Dinah/Oliver relationship to be hella toxic in comics?
Kreisberg's run sucked - the Canary/Green Arrow wedding sucked. Both characters took a hit and that's why they divorced them
and sent them back to their own comics. Not to mention... Black Canary started out in The Flash universe. She hasn't 'always'
been with Green Arrow. Geez, you fanboys make it sound like she was created to be Oliver's wife, and that is really insulting to
true Black Canary fans. She's no Iris (who was created for that purpose.) She's a hero in her own right. Best run of Dinah was
Gail Simone's Birds of Prey and had NOTHING to do with Oliver. Maybe you should read some 'source material' that predates the
2000s dude"
I will agree that prior to Oliver's resurrection in 2001 the relationship between him and Dinah had become spotty at best. but when
one looks way back prior to 1987 Oliver was steadfastly devoted to Dinah and Vice-Versa and it wasn't big brave hero with his "little
woman" tagging along either. They were probably the healthiest couple in DC Comics at the time as there were no secrets between
them (identity or otherwise)Ollie had no qualms about Dinah watching his back or going off on her own adventures.
So what do you think guys and gals?
Should there be a future for Ollie and Dinah or are they destined to be slaves to the make-up/break-up curse for all time?
