Just for the hell of it Here are 3 books that in my mid 20's I sold and have never been able to get them since due to skyrocketing prices.
Incredible Hulk 181 FN-FN+ I got this from my best friend,( may he rest in peace) for 25.00 when I was about 20. At the time I remember he would always joke that I stole it from him when we looked at the Wizard price guide and saw that it crept to 200.00.
Amazing Spiderman 300 VF. Got it off the racks at the LCS in West Chester Pa at 19 years old. At the time I thought Todd McFarlane was the ultimate Spiderman artist. John Romita who? Venom was a bad ass back then.
Avengers 57 or issue 9 Again got these at the LCS and I was probably 16 or 17 and I had a gift certificate for my birthday. Vision and Wonderman were my favorite Avengers by far.
Exactly, while there are books I kind of would like to still have, the reasons I sold them were real and more important than owning a hobby piece, and I like having those things I used the resources I got from selling the book on being resolved more than I would ever enjoy still owning the book. And I can pretty much find a way to read any story in a book I sold in some format now, so the reasons to still own it are even less.
Those books have been gone for over 30 years so I don’t lose sleep over them. But I was thinking of my friend and that’s what made me think of this post.
Out of work for 16 months in 08 and 09, I had to sell some books to live. Regrets... a little but I rather have a roof over my head and food on the table. I did it to survive.
I should have specified. Not selling for food or family or anything like that. But just selling because, for Instance, at 27 I had no idea what they could be worth and 200.00 in my pocket was pretty sweet.
