I just looked at tons of Charlton books as I thought it was a Ditko cover and he did not do THAT much work pre-SA, but I am drawing a blank.

Yeah the image struck me as Ditko-esque as well, and my first thought was also one of the Chalrton horror covers, but I guess it was a lousy first impression. -M

You guys are on the right track.. it IS Charlton, it isn't Ditko. It is a famous name, though... a little after the Ditko Charlton stuff... just barely pre-silver age

My other guess was Dick Giordano (I was thinking maybe inking over Ditko).

Cover date for that is Nov 1962 which is not pre-Silver Age, considering Showcase 4 which introduced Barry Allen was cover-dated Sept-Oct 1956 and Fantastic Four #1 was cover dated November 1961, so the clue was a red herring So I am filing an "official protest" in triplicate for the contest organizer of this game to lose his classic credibility certification for 30 days -mockly outraged MRP!

Yes, well, seem at the time (that is, in Nov. 1962) they didn't know it was the silver age yet... it's only in hindsight that we know that. Also, I could argue that the early FF was really just another Monster book, and it's really Amazing Fantasy #15 that started the silver age... which was August 1962 thus very close. Or, I could just tell you I had 1952 in my head as the pub date (obviously wrong), when I typed the clue... you can take whichever excuse you prefer
