Here's one I never quite thought I'd own but I got it on sale on Metropolis. Of all the Fiction House titles this is one of the coolest. Not a run I want to complete, there is just a few issues I really want nice copies of, and this is one: Planet #39

Along with that issue, I also found this one. One of the earliest LB Cole romance covers and the only copy for sale I've ever seen - and it's a Canadian version at that! True To Life Romances #3

I really like those Cry For Dawn and Planet covers. The CFD cover reminds me of a late '70s/'80s artist who did cult/horror VHS covers. His name escapes me, but maybe someone else (Dan B) knows.

Does being given comics as a form of payment count? If so, then I "purchased" these for helping a colleague sell off his collection. He basically said to pick and choose what I wanted. He has a huge collection, mostly Marvel stuff from 1975-1985, in mid to lower grade with the occasional high grade copy. Below are the issues he is allowing me to keep so far...I am still sorting through it all and seeing what I want and what is best to sell. I will get some pics up soon!
X-Men #123 Defenders #17, 26, 42, 61, 76, 95, 96, 100, 115, 122 Invaders #31 Marvel Treasury ft Howard the Duck Marvel Treasury ft Defenders DC Treasury Batman #1 DC Treasury Flash #1 Superman and Spider-Man Treasury (one with Doom on cover)
There are a few more treasury books I will likely grab, just because I have never owned any and they are neat to have. Condition is okay on them which I am happy with. The other issue were ones I just wanted to read. He had a full run from #20-125 of Defenders...I basically picked out a few with covers I liked (and ones with Spidey apps). I am also going through em to find stories that feature the Elf, Guardians and grabbed the ish with Omega. I know this supposedly wraps up the Omega story Gerber started on his brief run on Omega Unknown (a run which he has and if condition is nice, I will likely keep as well). The Invaders issue just had a cover I could not say no to (Nazi Frankenstein).

I just recieved my copy of the new HC edition of P Craig Russell's Ring of the Nibelung, and wow, I have to say it may be the nicest package I've ever seen. Dark Horse books tend to have excellent production values in general, but this is some next level stuff. Particularly the extras, which include a commentary by Russell on how he took the lyrics and music and visualized them on the page-- I don't think I've seen such an interesting artist's commentary in a comic ever. (Although Pat Mills' commentaries in the Titan Charley's War HCs come close.) Very, very happy with this purchase, and I highly recommend that other people check it out.
Also, I'm not particularly a fan of Wagner or opera in general, but I now have three different versions of Ring of the Nibelungon my shelf-- the Thomas/Kane version, the PCR version, and two thirds of the wonderful all-ages adaptation by Alex Alice (which was an animation project for Disney Euro that fell apart. Film's loss is comics' gain, I say.) All of them are really, really good, too. I guess there's even a fourth if I count Thomas' Siegfried issues of Thor during the "Eternals Saga".

I know 1 guy on the CGC boards has nearly every FH book - how insane is that? I eventually also want a #34 and #41, just because the covers are killer. I do also like the #50, so be sure to post it. Also - Treasury editions are killer books! I've got a set myself.

I just popped into my LCS to pick up the few odd new titles I still collect, and saw that they had three short boxes full of Bronze Age Marvels for £2 a comic. Some of them were pretty trashed and the majority were series I have no interest in collecting (Conan, Nova, Man-Thing etc), but I did pick up Marvel Two-In-One #86 -- featuring a story with The Thing and Sandman that I've heard good things about -- and half a dozen issues of Marvel Team-Up that are all on my wants list.

Nice pickups. I love those MTU issues with the fairly obscure villains (Blacklash, Silver Dagger, Tatterdemalion), and that is a really good issue of Marvel 2-In-1.

Good stuff. I've never seen that "Marvel All-Colour Comics" logo before. Interesting! Yeah, that banner only appeared on U.S. comics that were printed for export to the UK, which is why they have the 12p price printed on the cover. The reason Marvel changed the banner wording was undoubtedly because the vast majority of British comics at the time were black & white. Trust me, I can well remember how utterly blown away I was when, at age 10 or so (circa 1982), I first found a stash of imported American Marvels and DCs in a local newsagent shop: having only been exposed to black & white U.S. reprints or British B&W comics, it was an absolute revelation -- "Wow! Comics...and they're in COLOUR!!!" Ah, happy times.
