Today was the Ohio Toy & Comic show put on by my friends from Roma collectibles. It's more toy focused than comics, but there were some comic dealers. My wife actually went with me to the show and we picked up a lot of toys and art that she was interested in, but I did pick up a few comics... found a pair of Bronze Aquaman issues in the 50 cent bins at one dealer... got this pair of Howard themed Super Specials for $10... and this trio of issues for $7 combined... and this 4 trades at 2/$5 (volume 2 of Brubaker's Catowman and volumes 2-4 of new52 Aquaman. I'll post pics of the toys and artwork we got down in the appropriate section. -M

I have a pretty big collection and I find that I'm also frugal when it comes to shopping at various shows. I find that I go to the 1 dollar boxes first and I usually only glance at the 5 dollar and up boxes. I'm usually willing to wait some missing comics out until I can find it for a song.

Superman Crisis at Hand is a good story arc right before the whole Death of Superman.
By the way how much did issue 5 of Star Wars Dark Empire cost you? I've seen that exact issue for 8 bucks everytime I go to the comic shop once in awhile

Picked these Bronze Age Thors up today I violated my own rule about condition. These books have holes punched on them as if they were bound. I tell myself they will do while I look for these 4 books in better condition. They only cost a buck each.

No photos cos lazy...but I just paid for Capt America 135, which together with 144, 146, and 147 I received this week gives me 120 - 200 complete. Now my dilemma. I have 10 issues left between 100 and 119, including the expensive 117(first Falcon). So I have 3 options. 1. Buy issues from lonestar (mycomicshop ) 2. Buy Marvel Super Action reprints of 6 issues for like $2 instead of $15 or so for the real deal. I have Cap 100 like this cos no way imma pay $500. 3. Buy Capt America Epic Collection which will cost me $45. Cheapest option of all but I already have Essentials and digital to read. Part of the appeal was having THE books. But. I have compromised twice already. I also have the special edition reprint of 2 of the Steranko books. So wats a fulla to do ? Remember I don't have the same access to cheap books youse do. No LCS. No convention $1 bins. No Ebay...well I could but I'd pay a fortune in mail. Even buying stuff from Oz is expensive, they really gouge you. I thought our trademe sellers were unrealistic. Anywho... Thoughts.

Buy the reprint issues. I have the Fantastic four from 1-115 mostly in reprint form from Marvels Greatest comics,Collectors items classics and Triple action. They were what was available in the early 70's to catch up on that title. I also have Essentials and Epic collections but I prefer the comic book version.

Lately I haven't had an aversion to paying postage for comics from ebay because I pay tolls to get to New Jersey , where I buy many of my comics in shows, and it comes out to around 18 dollars just for tolls. I guess, you have to pay something to get your fix.

Spent last Saturday at my favorite shop for used comics: All About Books and Comics. The owner keeps 2 spinner racks and 2 book shelves full of gently "used" comics in a main store with another store room 2 doors down stocked with 50 cent and $1 comics of all single issues, series and companies ranging from the 1960's up through current stuff that is overstocked or not selling. He has customers who will create package deals of series runs or various related comics that would normally be in a $1 box or tossed away as trash and they are marked down to move. Simple reading stuff in poor to fair shape but in need of a good home. The owner gets a percentage of the sale for showcasing these packs in the store.
There were 2 packs of War comics this visit which I bought. They were $10 each containing 7 comics in each bag. Yellowed, frayed around the edges, tempting smell sparking the memories of used bookstore shopping and had to buy. I have picked up some of these value packages before: 2 Western sets, a War set, complete set of Kirby's Eternal's, complete set of Kirby/Ditko Machine Man (minus the 2001 issues) and an Archie pack with various digests. Great summer reads for a great value and usually containing 5-10 issues in each bag. Every bag has a sticker on the front denoting what comic's and issues are inside. Prices will range from $9.00 and up depending on the series and how many issues are together.
Star Spangled War Stories with the Unknown Soldier issues 153, 156, 170, 173, 186, 192, 202
Sgt Rock issues 387, 392, 421 Our fighting Forces 131
Weird War #31
War is Hell #3
Combat Kelly and his Deadly Dozen 2

Stopped by our local Half Price Books today since they had given me a coupon when was there last because the scanner rang up the wrong price on some stuff we bought, and picked up a few things... found some cheap comics...the Secret Origins issue featuring Dr. Fate and the Ghost Rider issue were $1.50, everything else was $1 including all the old Dells and Gold Keys... (the EC issue is a Gemstone reprint) I also got some non-comic but comic-related stuff.. a Boris artbook... and a host of vintage paperbacks featuring comic creators and/or comic/pulp characters... including a pair of Lensman books... a pair of Perry Rhodan books... a trio of Avenger novels and a Flash Gordon book I had as a kid... and Gardner Fox Kothar novel and a Henry Kuttner novel with a Gray Morrow cover... -M
