Getting close on Simonson X-Factor too. Though the Apocalypse appearance will be difficult to land. At least at a price I’m willing to pay. I’m also hoping to get Earth/Universe/Paradise X soon so I can read them. I never bought them when they were coming out. And I read Earth X 0 and it seems like it’ll be interesting.

Here in town we have a vintage shop called Vintage Depot that does a fair amount with comics and the owner's son-in-law has set up at local cons for the past couple of years. In may, the owner, Ron, passed after a battle with cancer and the shop temporarily closed while everything went through probate. This weekend was their grand re-opening as his children are now running the shop, and 30% of all sales this weekend were being donated to cancer research, so I stopped by to say hello and look around. I ended up picking up a few things and donating a few more dollars beyond what I bought to the cancer research fund they were supporting. I picked up the following.... Both 3 issue Death mini-series by Gaiman... I had read these when they came out, but I no longer had the books and wanted to reread them as part of a Sandman reread I am doing. I also picked up all but 2 issues of the 90s Hawkman series I needed, the series gets panned a lot, but it was Messner-Loebs stuff and a decent read despit the continuity issues. Plus early Steve Leiber art in a lot of issues... a few other misc. books... Spelljammer #1 as I am picking up the DC D&D books, Comic Scene #9 dealing with fantasy adventure books and an artice on Frzetta & Bakshi's Fire & Ice, and one of the new52 Stormwatch trades for $4. Also for $4 each were these two hardcovers... both of which I had seen good things about and wanted to check out. -M

A couple of book purchased on eBay arrived today: And jolly good fun they are too. And I just bought volume 4... but, when it arrived, it turned out I had managed to buy a German edition not the French one. Merde! So I gave it to German friend to stop me peeking and spoiling the story by looking at the pictures without reading it.

Initially I thought maybe this should be posted in the modern comics section because it was published in 2012, but since it (mainly) reprints stuff from the 1990s (and references much older comics), I figured here was better. Anyway, this just arrived in the mail this morning: I've never really been interested in Simpsons comics, but ever since I heard that the Radioactive Man features are apparently clever parodies/homages to super-hero comics from the 1950s onward, I've been curious about them. Anyway, about a week and a half ago I stumbled onto this almost like-new copy at the Amazon UK Marketplace - paid a little less than $13.50 total (i.e., including postage to Croatia). Seems like a pretty good deal.

"Up and atom." "Up and at them." "Up and atom!" "Up and at them!" "UP and ATOM!" "UP and AT THEM!" "Better."

The Simpsons comics have been very readable over the years. But the Radioactive Man comics are a step beyond. They're just crazy fun and it's very clear they're done by people who love comic book history and treat it with the right amount of irreverence.

I've barely ever watched the Simpsons but one I would seem to run into is the one where the kids fight over a Radioactive Man comic in the treehouse. I have a the first few of the comic as e-comics/pdf and they are a lot of fun... spanning different ears and fictional issue numbers. Got the first few Squirrel Girl that way too and those are fun as well. So there's these, Don Simpson's Megaton Man, Moore & Co.s 1963, Big Bang (which is on my 'list' to get someday), Scott McLeod's Destroy!, Avengers #1 1/2... this could have a genre name of it's own... maybe pastiche comics? I also have those 1997 Flashback minus 1s and one 'Amalgam' comic (so far) too.

Won an auction for Defenders #15 & 16 (Magneto and other mutants appearing), apologies to anyone who'd wanted them to go with the other issues that seller had up. Didn't expect to win them but got interested in the two because of a review of them here by codystarbuck.

Picked up a few things at a little comic shop called Comic Heaven in Willoughby, Ohio (outside Cleveland) that we stopped at on our way driving out to Vermont. No pics this time (I'm in our hotel in VT at the moment), but here's what I got... Leave it to Chance Vol. 3 Monster Madness & other stories in the oversized hc edition Comics Revue Presents...Honey Gun (Dec 2015) (a $20 collection for $2) stock image from lonestar... Star * Reach #5 Imagine #5, 6 Eclipse Magazine #2, 3, 4, 5 (completes series for me) Marvel Preview #20 and form their dollar bins Static #1 Alien Legion (2nd series) #14 Dark Horse Presents #145 The Dark Crystal #1 (Marvel movie adaptation) Star Wars Rebels Magazine #1, #3 (for my wife) plus they gave me a free Black Panther movie poster (from the DVD/Blue Ray release), as well as letting me take a picture of an original Joe Kubert sketch (featuring Sgt. Rock meeting Tarzan done circa 1973) that I posted over in the Comic Tidbits thread). -M
