The DeMatteis mini and main series stands out to me. I remember enjoying that a great deal. Very Vertigo in its sensibilities. I strongly disliked the mini, but I agree about the main series. For anyone interested, I did an overview of that series here. And mars, this one's for you: Doesn't that box even make it seem like Dr. Fate had his own fan club? One of the coolest looking characters ever. But i dont really "get" magic characters.

Attachment DeletedGot to do something I RARELY get to do...hunt through a flea market. Where I live just does not have a lot of comics to begin with but this flea market opened up and this guy was advertising so naturally I had to go. First pic has some Batman and Cap issues I needed to fill in (from Knightfall arc and Brubaker stuff) plus I snagged Lobo #1 for fun. Second pic has some Sandman. The covers look sharp for white covers and I want to real more Gaiman. The final pic I was most amped for. The Batman books are cool (I needed that one ish to finish the Mud Pack story) but that fanzine is the real winner for me. I saw it and instantly knew it was Neal Adams. There were a ton of other fanzines from the same Hot Stuf' title...not sure if they worth picking up, some covers were wicked. But this one I had to have. All in all, $19 well spent.

And from the dollar boxes
Adventures of Superman Annual 1 - Nice Starlin story

DC Comics Presents 43
All Star Squadron 25, the third time I've bought the first Infinity Inc. appearance.

Not a "comic" per se, but I managed to pick up a first-print Fantastic Four Omnibus I today, still in its original shrinkwrap, for $80, which is 20% off retail. It reprints FF #1 - 30, plus Annual #1; I've never read any of these issues, so I'm really excited to get it opened and dive into the Marvel Universe from where it all began.

Sorry, but I just have to re-tell this story any time anyone mentions the FF Omnibus because it's my #1 comic book bargain story. I pre-ordered that FF omnibus and got it the day it was originally published for, wait for it...£15! Amazon UK had made a mistake with their listing, pricing the book way below the £70 that it should've been. They realised their mistake about a week before the book was published and corrected their listing, but luckily for me they honoured all of the pre-orders, so I got it for an absolute steal! Anyway, it's a great book. The stories are essential Silver Age Marvel and although I found some of the sillier concepts (especially those associated with the Human Torch's flame) a little hard to swallow, compared to the more street-level vibe of Lee and Ditko's roughly concurrent issues of Amazing Spider-Man, it is tremendous fun. Vol. 2 is also well worth tracking down, collecting as it does issues #31-60 plus a few annuals. I'm still holding out for a volume 3 that would collect issues #61-90. Maybe when the new film comes out?

Did you pick 90 just because the others are 30 issues? Over on the MMW forums they had a poll about most wanted Marvel omnis and they had vol 3 going up to 93. I had assumed/hoped they'd just make it a bigger volume and include the rest of the Kirby issues. I haven't read the material, so I'm wondering if there's a reason beyond size for stopping at 90/93.
If you don't care about second printings, you can get the second omnibus from CGN for $60.

I don't necessarily care about second printings, although I would pay $20 more for a first printing if it were available.
On the "what have I purchased lately" front, I picked up a nice copy (VF-, at least) of Spectacular Spider-Man #64 (first Cloak & Dagger) today for $10. It was from this shop where almost everything else was way overpriced, but this book was relatively underpriced; I checked recent eBay auctions while I was in the shop, and most copies of this book regularly go for $15 or more, with high grade copies going for well more than $25.

Just won three auctions from the same guy on eBay, the results of which netted me Spectacular Spider-Man #'s 4, 5, and 6 for a total of $7.88, including shipping. The first two books were just $.99 each, while #6 wound up costing me $1.30 since someone else bid on it right at the end (I'd put in maximum bids of $1.75 for each of the three), and the combined shipping cost was $4.60.
I see these issues usually for $7-$8 apiece, so I'm pretty happy to get all three for that amount, and this moves me to needing just 5 issues to complete the run from #1 - #150.

I bought the first two trades of Ostrander's Martian Manhunter. I don't know if it'll hold up, but it's one of the first comics I ever collected and I remember really liking it. Just flipping through it I noticed a panel where it appears from his expression that Superman is in love with our boy J'onn. And who can blame him?

This was the series that started it for me. Love the early stories, they are just fun. I have the first 20 or so issues that I snagged up 10 years ago now. They were just so cheap and easy to collect. Say what you may about Razorback from #13 but I liked him

I wouldn't say "love" so much as Supes really looks up to J'Onn as a role model. It comes up a few times in the series. I was re-reading the second tpb last night, and Superman and J'Onn have a talk where Superman tells J'Onn that he considers him the most human person he knows (but don't take it the wrong way).

I reached a sort of personal milestone today by acquiring the fourth and final issue of Atlas' Yellow Claw, a horribly racist bit of Cold War, "yellow peril" propaganda that didn't seem to work whether it was helmed by Al Feldstein or Jack Kirby, and even the addition of EC veteran John Severin couldn't save the title.
Nevertheless, it completes my first and only full run of any title, making me, I suppose, an honorary completist?

Nothing as impressive as that gorgeous Yellow Claw book Phil Maurice got, but I did pick up a few things this week...
got my first Epic Collection as FF Vol. 1 came out collecting FF #1-18 in color plus some extras like unused art for covers and such. I really dig the Epic format, and may look at upgrading some stuff I have as Essentials to that format if/when they are released that way.
Not a classic comic per se, but a classic character-I also picked up the collection of prose Rocketeer stories from IDW called Rocketeer: Jet-Pack Adventures.
Also found some bargain bin stuff....
Question 3-11 Wonder Woman 8 (Perez) Justice Society of America (1992 series w/Mike Parobeck art) 1-2, Legends of the Dark Knight 39 )Mask Pt. 1 by Bryan Talbot) The Astro City/Arrowsmith flipbook Dragonfly 5 (80s indy book) Nexus 30 (guest art by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez Aquamn (1986 mini) 3 Grendel (Comico) 2 Ms. Tree 25-29, 32 and the Rock and Roll Summer Special #1 (Renegade Press) Who's Who in the DC Universe 20 and 23 (2 of the 5 issue sI needed for that)

I've been getting some of the epic stuff (mostly those that have come out that are things I don't have in other formats)... they're really good... you get color, and for only slightly more than the essentials... plus that have some extras in them like a regular trade would.
