I'd like to get the Epics for Avengers to fill in gaps at least up through Stern's run, since I have the nine Essentials minus 7 (which is $50) and the Stern's stuff minus Trial of Yellowjacket (also $50). I may replace the Essentials eventually.
I ordered the three volumes of Fantastic Four Visionaries by Byrne I was missing (2,3,7). I paid over cover for one, which I usually refuse to do, because I wanted to finally be able to read it and wanted to remove the temptation of ordering the omnibuses (omniboo?).

I actually picked up the FF Visionaries: John Byrne volumes 1,5,6,8 for $28 altogether over the last week. (I already had vol. 4 for the Doom-Terrax-Surfer throwdown, and I didn't really need 7 because so much of it is reprinted in the Avengers Epic collections, minus the SW2 issue where the Torch meets his dying fan.) Volume 2 is ridiculously overpriced on the secondary market.

Yeah, I paid $40 for 2. I didn't like doing it, but it's a new copy, used was $30 and I'd been looking for a couple years and never seen any. A local place had multiple copies of 0,1,4,5,6 and 8 for like $3 a piece years ago, and it never occured to me that might mean the others might be scarce.

Went to Granite Con yesterday. Pictures when I have a chance. I got a ton of stuff from the dollar bins. One guy had some really nice selection of 70's stuff in a row of 50 cent bins as well, so I picked up some runs really cheap. There were only three comics I paid more than a dollar for - Usagi Yojimbo #11 (vol. 3) set me back $5, and Action #315 and Pep #198 cost me $3 each.
Everything else was either $1 or 50 cents. All the stuff listed here set me back a total of $48:
Usagi Yojimbo #11 Omaha the Cat Dancer #3, 5
Pep #198 Josie #20 Jughead #145, 171, 172 Archie #161 Archie Annual #21 Betty and Veronica (vol. 2) #246, 247, 249, 260, 261, 263, 264 The Black Hood #1 - Alex Toth cover! Red Circle Sorcery #9
Action Comics #315 DC Retroactive: JLA 1970's Batman #427 - my gosh, I remember driving all over new England trying to find this when it came out. Now I got it for $1 Weird War Tales One-Shot #1 (2010) Adventure Comics #427 - classic pure adventure cover Strange Adventures #211 - Neal Adams Deadman! Young Romance #178 - giant size! date stamp! Original Owner's name on the cover! This one has it all. Sgt. Rock #349
Marvel Fanfare #21 (Doctor Strange) Ms. Marvel #19 MTU #95 - first Mockingbird! MTU #79 - Red Sonja! Red Sonja #8, 9 Conan the Barbarian #3, 36 - yes, the low distribution issue. It's completely trashed, but for $1, it will do fine as a placeholder Gunhawks #1, 6
and the real meat of the day, a dive into the hot button genres of the 1970's:
Master of Kung-Fu #18-24 Tomb of Dracula #6, 34, 36, 40, 56, 62 Hero for Hire / Power Man #4, 12, 14, 16-26, Annual 1, Giant-Size 1

I love Combat Kelly! Nice pick ups! The final issue of that series is the best IMO. As for me, I caved and purchased a Spidey key. It had to happen. I will wait until it comes it to post pictures because I am worried...it looks like a super nice book and I think I got a steal on it. Hopefully this week, I will share

Icctrombone - nice pick-up on the Doc Savage! I'm going to be hunting for one of my own in a couple of weeks so I can complete that series.
Scott - great grab on that MTU #95; I've been looking for it cheap, so I have hope maybe I can grab it at Pittsburgh Comicon. Also, those are nice little runs of MoKF, TOD, and HfH/PM you grabbed. It always depresses me (or makes me happy when I'm looking for them) that so much classic goodness is in the bargain bins these days, but the latest variant covers are going for $50 or more.

Had some credit coming form Lone Star so I finally pulled the trigger on the Golden age Dr. Fate Archive s had been eyeing for a while and that had been discussed here. Now just have to watch my mailbox. I had had enough credit that I only had to pay shipping on it out of pocket, so was happy.

I bought a run of about 30 Thor books from the 360's- to the 430's, at a show. I'm surprised how cheaply you can get that series.

I bought a run of about 30 Thor books from the 360's- to the 430's, at a show. I'm surprised how cheaply you can get that series. Almost every book in my Thor collection between issues #275 and #502 were acquired for $1.50 or less (with the vast majority either $1 or less) within the last 10 years; the only one that wasn't was #337 (go figure) and I think I only paid $8 for that one. As I wrote above, so many classic books can be had for next to nothing, because current investors (and that's what some of them are, instead of being collectors) want the hot books or the variant covers so they can flip them quickly and make a profit (not that making a profit is bad, mind you), but they have no interest in the stories that came before. Me? I'll buy your dollar box Bronze Age all day, every day, and twice on Sundays (if my wife lets me out after church ).

Whoa! Those issues of MOKF and TOD for $1 each!!? Nice.
Is that MTU with Mockingbird a hot issue now? I got it for a couple of bucks sometime ago in a fairly high grade. I just checked Lone Star Comics' website and they only seem to have consignment copies for $30-$50 each or thereabouts. Not sure if they are slabbed but they are graded.

Yeah, because she's about to join the SHIELD TV show. It's not the first appearance of Bobbi Morse, but it's her first appearance as Mockingbird. She previously went by Huntress before that title was poached by DC. Of course, the name Mockingbird previously belonged to DC before Marvel poached it, which is probably not a coincidence. Anyway, it's getting one of those dumb TV/movie speculation boosts, but I doubt it will remain hot.
