Time for another "haul" post.
Yesterday was FCBD nationwide, of course. A chain with several stores locally had a sale in observance. I scavenged bargain boxes (mostly marked at US$1.00), and at sale prices, I ended up paying only half. Here's what I bought, in more or less chronological publication order:
John Carter Warlord of Mars 3 (in beautiful shape!) Master of Kung Fu 80 All-Star Squadron 3, 23, 46, 65 Arak Son of Thunder 2, 22, 30 Az 2 Iron Man 175 DC Comics Presents 65 The New Mutants Special Edition 1 The Avengers 270 Captain America 320, 385, 386 Tales of the Teen Titans 60 Blue Devil 31 Secret Origins 16, 17, 21, 23 Fantastic Four 304, 305, 307, 314, 315, 318 Thor 380, 386, 387, 403, 413, 449 The Doom Patrol 6, 10 The Young All-Stars 12, 14 Marvel Comics Presents 15 The Maze Agency 17 Retief 6 (Adventure Comics) Incredible Hulk 370, 383, 390, 391, 394, 395, 437, 438, 439, 440, 442, 443, 445, 446, 447, 451, 465 Iron Man 279 X-Men Classic 58, 63, 64 Silver Sable 16, 17 The Strangers 2, 12 Hard Case 5 The Night Man 4 Ms. Mystic 2 (Nov. 1993) Wrath 6 Giant-Size Freex 1 Captain America 454 Excalibur 124 Fantastic Four 16 (April 1999; closing a persistent hole in my collection) The Brave and the Bold 6 (March 2000) X-Men the Movie Prequel: Rogue X-Men the Movie Prequel: Wolverine JSA 7, 31, 33, 35, 40, 42, 43, 67, 73 Marvel Universe 1, 2 (These are renamed newsstand versions of some Hulk title.) Rising Stars 1/2 Uncanny X-Men 457 Fantastic Four 533 Ultimate Spider-Man 105, 122 Justice Society of America 29, Annual 1 Wolverine Origins 33, 34, 46, 47, 48, 49 Incognito 1, 2 Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? 10, 11 The Shade 2 1:10 (?) variant AVX 2 (2nd print)
All in all, not too bad for what I paid.

I picked up Strange Adventures #205-213 and Batman And Grendal: Devil's Dance while browsing during Free Comic Book Day. Well, in the latter I didn't actually buy Batman and Grendal, when I got to the register and was handing over the books the guy said to me, "Woo, that's a bit damaged huh?" It had a small flaw on the cover that looked like it once had a sticker on it that was latter pulled off but it was only 50 cents and the interior was perfectly readable so it seemed worth more than fair for 50 cents and I told him as much to which he replied, "It'd be a crime to even sell it at that!" I laughed, thanked him and forked over the cash and left with out even glancing at the receipt. When I got home carrying my bag my girl friend groaned and asked how much I spent this time and for the first time I read the receipt to tell her how much I paid and noticied that Batman Grendal was not listed at all.
When he said it was a crime I thought he was joking but he evidently took it literally and that floored me. This was my first time to the shop so it's not like he owed me or anything so it really blew me away. Except for back issues, I've been nearly 100% digital for three years now but I'm thinking that might change now.

They were a great find and the price was even better as it worked out to be about 25 bucks an issue when you average it out.

Then I got it home and found the cover to be detached. It's a great book. Love the Infantino art. What a contrast to the Neal Adams work that was right around the corner.

My cover for #205 had apparently been restored which was why it wasn't some ungodly some but I just wanted to read it so its depreciated value wasn't a big deal. All in all, it was a total impulse buy as it was hanging on the wall behind the register and the cover caught my eye.

I bought this lot of Godzilla comics this weekend. Can't wait for the new movie that comes out in a few weeks. These should help contain some of that excitement for a bit.

The best part was that whole storyline where he was shrunk to roughly human size and he was wandering in New York, unnoticed because he was wearing a trenchcoat. And then he fought Devil Dinosaur!

Ha I wish had the singles for that series, I picked up the trade a few years back and loved it. I'm a huge Doug Moench fan so I was surprised to see his name attached but reading the books you can definitely feel his touch in it.
The only thing I thought was weird was why Godzilla didn't look like Godzilla. I mean the cartoon was the same way, but it just struck me as odd.

My buddy has all the issues of that series. He has told me the greatest fight is nearly all the Marvel heroes vs Godzilla.

Haven't picked up much lately. I did just pay for a few Cole books that I should get in soon though. I'm slacking in my scanner duties. Been busy building the new garden and dealing with that.
However I also just got in Cry for Dawn #8. I've owned a #2 for years, then I was given a pair of other issues recently so I'm deciding to hunt them down. #4 came in a few weeks ago - always loved that cover! #1 will be a bit of a pain, but I think I can find reasonable copies of 5, 6, & 9.

I s'pose this counts. There's a hardback of Milligan & Pulido's Human Target: Final Cut which I kid you not has been sitting on the shelf at the back since it's debut, like, 12 years ago. I was in there today for FBCD natch, and just couldn't take it anymore. Could provide an excuse to seek out the whole Milligan run, as I never finished it. such a good read. you were right to liberate it Yepperpepperdoodlydoo. Anyway, I found a couple more pieces for my run of James Robinson's Firearm on FCBD: issue #13, along with issue #10 of Prime (crossed over with FA #6).

My buddy has all the issues of that series. He has told me the greatest fight is nearly all the Marvel heroes vs Godzilla. The only issues I have are the final two, which features the fight mentioned here. I got #23 signed by Herb Trimpe at a show a few years ago. Whenever I meet a creator, I always have themsign something Avengers related if they worked on anything to do with the Avengers. For Trimpe, who never pencilled Avengers himself, that included Godzilla #23.

Is that some special crossover, or is Godzilla considered part of the Marvel Universe?
edit: I know he had a Marvel series, but I assumed it was like Star Wars.
