And now I will have the second TPB shipping to me. Excellent choice, prepare for a fun read. IMO, the second TPB is even more entertaining than the first! Also, most of the characters are great...but Mosquito is irresistible. I just love her personality, powers and design. Mosquito rocks! I never, ever heard of Mosquito can you tell me more about this cool character here and I just loved her outfit and its so clean, refined, and nicely drawn too. Who owns her?

Mosquito rocks! </div> I am assuming she's a Dave Cockrum creation since she went from advanced regular human in beginning of Futurians to superhero Mosquito. I JUST read the transformation from humans to superhuman/superhero in Futurians last night. I have yet to see any of them in real action yet, though. But, yeah, I already love her.

I just love her personality, powers and design. Mosquito rocks! I never, ever heard of Mosquito can you tell me more about this cool character here and I just loved her outfit and its so clean, refined, and nicely drawn too. Who owns her? Yep as Cold Water said, Mosquito was created by Dave Cockrum during his initial Uncanny X-Men run. What I love about this character is not only the great design, but her personality as well. The Futurians were given their powers by Future Dynamics (long story), so Mosquito came to be quite suddenly and she had to learn about her powers on the fly. So she's got these tiny wings and can fly, but if she tries to save a falling comrade, this will likely happen: Then she has a dart gun. How cool is that? It's basically useless, but I love it. She can shoot different kind of darts (explosive, sticky) with it. Lastly she can use her wings to generate giant blasts of ultrasonic energy, which is really powerful. The funny thing about this is it makes you wonder why she even needs the dart gun in the first place, other than design filler. So basically she's cute and makes funny quips and gets scared easily and stuff. Similar to Kitty Pryde, sorta. She also has a sister, I don't want to spoil it, but you won't believe what becomes of Mosquito's sis. It all works in making Mosquito quite a charming character, and my favorite of the Futurians. * Mods: Sorry to derail the thread with Futurians talk. I am thrilled to see people interested in them and it's a great way to remember the fantastic creations of Dave Cockrum. If you'd like to move all of the Futurians posts into their own thread, I'd be happy to help!

Also there is a long story about how Cockrum turned down Marvel's offer on a Futurians series. He went with Lodestone instead, which may have offered him more money, but did not have nearly the publishing power that Marvel did. Lodestone went out of business after the third issue of Futurians. And that is basically why they failed. If Cockrum had accepted Marvel's offer, the Futurians could have been big.

I never heard of Lodestone till I got those issues in a con for a song.

I never heard of Lodestone till I got those issues in a con for a song. Possibly, but Marvel's standard offer at the time offer included them taking ownership of the characters, which they could have then taken Cockrum off the book if it didn't sell and gave them to another creator, or having them assign a writer and editor who would control the direction of the series and characters not Cockrum. Sure hindsight is 20/20 but there were reasons why Cockrum, who was essentially taken away from the babies he co-created with the X-Men by Marvel was a bit gunshy trusting his new creations with them in a long term relationship. Even the creator-owned titles under the Epic banner were getting editorial flack-Hey Jim Starlin, you need to make Dreadstar look more like a super-hero book so it sells better or we might not be able to keep it going... So he may have turned down Marvel for the ability to tell the story he wanted not the story they were demanding...we'll never know for sure. -M

This was a decade before Image was created. I don't even think Dark Horse had launched at that point. Eclipse, First, Pacific on it's last legs, Comico, these were the bigger indy publishers of the time, Lodestone was essentially financing Cockrum to self-publish a la the Mirage model and the boom of self-publishers that followed. -M

He released the GN with Marvel but I guess he didn't want to lose control. Starlin did have Dreadstar at Epic. I remember reading somewhere that Marvel was slow in paying Jim kinda slowly and not at all at times.
