Classic series via new TPB arrived last night from Amazon. The futuristic One Man Army Corp known as O.M.A.C. showing the mot so exaggerated future. Looking forward to reading these again and seeing how close Jack Kirby was with his futuristic predictions? O.M.A.C is one of my favorite series of all time and I think most of it has to do with being an analog for Captain America. Gonna get the collection as soon as we settle in from our move
I also love The Demon, was sad to see the recent reprint collection go out of print. So glad I got my copy when I did

Some more recent purchases... Always happy to get some more Atomic Robo - picked these two, vol. 3 and 4 of the tpb collections, at a local comics shop that often has a half-off sale on comics in English during the summer. I snapped these right up as soon as I saw them and was disappointed that they didn't have any more. I've been curious about the initial run of Immortal Iron Fist written by Brubaker and Faction for some time now. This nice hefty book collects all of it, and the price (from a UK vendor) was more than reasonable.

Oh my stars and garters...I never knew about the Filmation Journey to the Center of the Earth! I love moments like this...in the words of an Elder Scrolls video game I love, "quest updated", I definitely need to hunt this down. Looks like YouTube is the only option? For Fantastic Voyage I picked up the Region 2 DVD (I keep a stock of cheap DVD players that can convert/play those), I still love rewatching that one regularly. Just personal opinion but for those late 60's DC series, Aquaman is by far my favorite. The underwater setting is just fabulous, the theme song, and Black Manta appearances too! I always remember, "JOURNEY" debuted opposite the short 2nd season of "SPACE GHOST". I hate whenever they do a 2nd season and it only consists of like 6 new episodes. In this case, it was a single 6-PART story, about 2/3rds of which was designed to promote the new shows, like HERCULOIDS, MIGHTY MIGHTOR, MOBY DICK, etc.
So as soon as I realized on the 4th week the entire rest of the season was going to be reruns of stories I'd already seen several times... i switched from CBS to ABC and started watching JOURNEY.
The Filmation series was loosely inspired by the James Mason / Pat Boone / Thayer David film. By which I mean, it featured the regular villain of "Count Saknussem". Instead of an elderly butler, he had his "brute-like manservant TORG". I still laugh at the thought of that description.
Each episode was a stand-alone, which itself wan't a problem. However, the opening credits set up the entire premise, so even if you did start at the beginning, you didn't SEE the beginning of the story, because they jumped right over it. And, sadly, they never did an episode finishing the "big story" either. Back in the 80s, I briefly fantasized about Filmation following up their FLASH GORDON feature film with a JOURNEY feature that would bring back the same voice-actors, and finally give us the beginning-- and grand finale-- of the story.
Professor Oliver Lindenbrook and his party discovered so many bizarre underground civilizations, whatever "Atlantis" turned out to be, it would have to be pretty spectacular to live up to the build-up. Sadly, nobody at Filmation ever thought of doing this, and next thing, lead voice actor Ted Knight passed away. He always reminded me a bit of Reed Richards (Gerald Mohr) on H-B's FANTASTIC FOUR cartoons. only less aggressive and more altruistic, no matter how bad the bad guys got.
One of the reasons in the long run I appreciated Sid & Marty Kroft's LAND OF THE LOST was that in its 17 episodes, each stand-alone episode slowly advanced "the big story", and episode 17 brought the entire thing to a satisfying conclusion. I think stories should have an ending.
What was INSANE, was them then doing a 2nd season anyway... WTF? (And the writing in season 2 sucked, too, so I quit watching real fast.)
Thanks for confirming Filmation's FANTASTIC VOYAGE is out on DVD. I hadn't looked for it, yet. But I did get the feature film about 2 years ago. WOW. And early this year, I got Ruby-Spears' THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN. Whoa. I still maintain, I feel it was the best animated adventure series since JONNY QUEST in 1964. I had recorded THUNDARR off of ABC when it was first-run. My tapes are still watchable... but the upgrade in sound & picture quality was noticable! (On the DVDs, I could actually see how CRUDE some of the line-drawing was... HAH!)

driving to/fro for work is getting more dangerous every day. There's a lot of BAD streets in my neighborhood many years overdue for re-paving. On one, there's a spot where a long nasty bump of sorts runs across 2/3rds of the street. It's best to drive around it, which means crossing over to the left side of a 2-way street if you're going the other way, but impossible if someone PARKS right next to it where the street's smooth.
The other day, while coming home, I slowed down to drive carefully over the bump... and some IDIOT flew by me doing about 60 over the part of the bump that was even worse. Couldn't have been more than 12 inches away when he passed me. OY.

Thanks for the additional background on Journey! Definitely familiar with the movie, being a Jules Verne fan I've watched many of the old "adaptations", though a loose term in many cases Thundarr is great as well, I remember that time so well for animation adventure series. Flash Gordon the year before, Thundarr, and then in '81 Blackstar and Space Stars. I loved that Space Stars not only brought back Space Ghost and Herculoids, but that they would cross over sometimes.

Thanks for the additional background on Journey! Definitely familiar with the movie, being a Jules Verne fan I've watched many of the old "adaptations", though a loose term in many cases Quite a few years ago, I taped a really bad copy of a European film called "WHERE TIME BEGAN" off some local station. Despite its low budget, I came to really like the film more each time I saw it. 2 years ago, i got it on DVD under its original title, THE FABULOUS JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1977). Uncut, crystal-clear picture & sound, widescreen, and it turned out, the US version not only had several scenes missing, but some really terrible screwing around with the visuals in a couple of scenes. They'd even replaced both the opening & closing credits with some awful music. I actually watched my videotape back-to-back with the DVD to compare, the difference was shocking. I've seen the DVD 3 times so far, and while I still love the James Mason film, this one with Kenneth More has become my favoreite film adaptation of Verne's story.
Funny enough, there's a couple of scenes early in this film-- the one in the book shop, and another when someone figures out some writing is only readable in a MIRROR, that seems to have been swiped outright from-- of all places-- SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON (1942). Of course, that might have been borrowed from some OTHER source I haven't figured out yet... (I get a kick out of figuring out where what came from in some movies.)
There are some interesting diversions from Verne's novel, but overall, the 1977 film is FAR more authentic than the 1959 film... and the ending makes infinitely more sense. I saw the 1967 cartoon series before seeing the '59 film, so when it got to the climax, I couldn't believe how completely INSANE it was.
I wish they had a bigger budget for the dinosaurs, but I enjoy the film so much, I just put up with it.
Seems someone's posted it online...

Picked these up a few days ago, more to come but I'm crunched for time. All a dollar each.

Very nice for a buck apiece! I'd love to plow through the inventory at this place... you always seem to come up with some great Charlton books.
Oh, and who remembers the Super Cops movie? I think I was in 6th grade when that came out.

They always seem to replenish the dollar bins with books that don’t sell in the regular boxes. They are good that way.

Icctrombone, I see you're continuing to stock up on the non-superhero stuff.

One thing that they didn't mention in that Super Cops comic - in real life the two were called "Batman and Robin". The closest they come is the cover image with the two of them wearing t-shirts with a bat-like logo in red.

These three New Warriors fill holes in my collection. Now I need 8 more to complete the 75 issue run.

Three romance comics. I blame Crimebuster for these purchases 2 Orion books fill holes and the # 1 is a duplicate just in case it becomes a " thing".
