....pushing me just over $200 spent on classic comics in 2021.
I think my shipping charges for Dec alone is more than that To be fair, however, that’s just floppies. Collected editions were MUCH more than that over the course of the year. It helps that I live in a city that has a thriving comic scene, so I have access to a lot of different stores. Heck, there’s even going to be a fire hall comic show on Sunday this weekend, which I plan to attend to get the new year started right.

I own no Simpson comics so this HC, which comes in a slipcase, is a novelty.

Just got back from our enforced vacation. We hit up 10 comic stores in 6 days. I bought way, way too much stuff, which I'll be sahring in my youtube videos, but here are some of the highlights. I already shared the Mad issues earlier, but a few more keepers:

Picked up Iron Man# 142 (the 'Newest' of the original series I needed) Avengers 200, and Cap 341 (which is I think an Armor Wars tie in) from ebay... the Avengers 200 was a really good deal (like $4).. so $15 for the 3 with shipping. Down to 23 books needed on the original Iron Man series.

I bought some stuff from Lonestar - $70 shipping to Canada! And just after I sent it I realised I had forgotten to add one comic that I need to complete the 6-issue Skreemer that I've been meaning to read soon.
Definitely on the lookout now for an alternative to Mycomicshop.

Definitely on the lookout now for an alternative to Mycomicshop. I “remember” something else I needed from Lonestar pretty much 5 minutes after I place every order there. I’m often in such a rush to put an order through for want list items that have just popped in, I often find it hard to “build up” a full order that maximizes the shipping expense.

I won an auction for a HC from Canada, and the seller promised free shipping by fedex. And my winning bid was just over US$5. The seller messaged me, confirmed it will be sent and will lose money and wished me a Happy New Year.

I went to the comic book shop in Fullerton and came home with these:
Lois Lane #107 (Lois turns to snow) Lois Lane #130 (Lois can’t resist mind control and somehow kills Clark Kent in an elevator! That’s just the cover.)
Batgirl #68 (League of Assassins) Batgirl #69 (Mr Freeze) (Cassandra Cain Batgirl)
Batman and the Monster Men #4
Dick Tracy Weekly #86, #87 and #88

Was that on ebay? Maybe I'll have to start looking for things on there again.

Yeah, it took me several months to build that one up, so most likely it'll be that long again before I place another order with them - assuming don't find a better alternative somewhere.

I took off most of 2021 from collecting comics but decided to start back up in 2022 with adding to my X-men 1-300 collection. I purchased 170 for under 7.00

We went back. These were more expensive, but still a good deal, so I had to get them. Obviously, as an Archie fan, I had to have Mad #12 for my collection! Also a fan of Archie, I read that Starchie story when I was young... maybe 11 or 12, in a reprint comic. I have read thousands of comics in my 50+ years, but rarely have I had such a visceral reaction as I did to this one. It really bothered me. It repulsed and fascinated me... I loved it and hated it... I read and reread it. I obsessed over it. It was so violent and lurid, with Archie and Jughead portrayed as ambivalent juvenile delinquents, and Betty and Veronica as sexpots (something I had somehow never considered). It was SO memorable, it forever changed my perception of Archie and company... from then on, whenever I read Archie, it was there, in the back of my mind, taunting me. I have read Starchie since, even recently, and the same knot appears in my stomach. Mad, at it's best, is so brilliant in it's ability to dissect and distill the things you know, and peel away the veneer to reveal what might be just below the surface.

A few great finds at OLLIE's Outlet over the holidays.... The Little Box of Marvel from Taschen, $12... mine had Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man, not the Avengers... These are AWESOME little art books.. the quality Taschen is known for, but in a small package. Watchmen Noir oversized hardcover $6... Watchmen with no color. Kind of puts an end to that original/computer coloring debate. A big fat Batman Adventures trade (vol 4, $3) , with a bunch of Dini/Timm stories. And just look at that cover! Also picked up a bunch of Archie Mighty Crusaders trades from a few years back, a Hellblazer volume, and a few others. For christmas, I got The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, and THE EVOLUTION AND HISTORY OF MOOSEKIND! I'm so stoked about that last one.
