Excellent haul, mrp! I've been to Trader's World a couple of times, but never found anything close to what you brought home this weekend. If I had more money in the budget, I could have brought home more, as several dealers had trades at 50% off including a number of DC Showcase volumes and Marvel Masterworks, but I only had about $50 set aside in cash for the flea market, and none of the vendors were set up to take credit cards. The LCS that had the Heavy Metals however was, so I went over budget on those, but those were basically an early holiday gift from my wife... -M

Picked up this batch on Black Friday from the new comics shop in town: plus Moon Knight #8, 10, 12, &13. Apart from the first 6 MK issues, these are all comics I had when I was younger but then didn't, for whatever reason. So great to read them again. I think I got a pretty good deal, $40 for the lot. I expected the JLA issue to be more, because of Identity Crisis, but he only wanted a few dollars for it. Also, there were two copies of the Daredevil, one for $10 and one for $5. I couldn't tell the difference between them so I got the cheaper one. A couple soft creases that look more from printing than wear, so it's perfect as far as I'm concerned.

They are a great team. I'm really enjoying the issues I'm reading for the first time. There's a very powerful scene in one of those with Marlene at the piano, playing "In My Life" by the Beatles and breaking down, unable to continue. It was not long after John Lennon's murder, and the emotions conveyed in those two or three panels were very raw, the words and pictures coming together beautifully to express a tremendous sense of sadness and loss. Thirty-odd years later, it feels shoe-horned in and a bit jarring. I've since learned that Moench often sprinkled his writing with subtle (sometimes not so) references to his favorite bands, artists, etc. Not a thing wrong with that. And being that Lennon was killed in New York, how do you NOT say something? Evidently the scene was effective, as it's stayed with me all these years.

Ah, the Kevin Nowlan issue! Always wished he did more Marvel work (interiors...I've seen a lot of covers.)

Last purchase of the year for me... I picked up the 9 issue run of Devil Dinosaur (two different e-bay auctions, and one from Mycomicshop), and a bunch of 90s Avengers to fill in my run. I'm pretty psyched for both

I only own issue #1, and while I've often considered getting the rest, I've always found other things I'm more interested in buying whenever I have the opportunity. On the 90's Avengers, is that the end of the original series or the start of the Busiek/Perez run?

Ah, the Kevin Nowlan issue! Always wished he did more Marvel work (interiors...I've seen a lot of covers.) Ditto that. I picked up some of the "New" Defenders issues that he did the covers for, and while the interior art isn't bad it wasn't Nowlan's. This was very early on in my first collecting and I was till getting use to cover art not matching interior art. Sometimes it's a good surprise and sometimes it's not.

That Defenders run had amazing covers. I wish I'd kept those, partially for that reason.

I'd filled in most of the last 5 years or so (when I was buying only when it tied in with Iron Man or Force Works at the time) in a couple $1 bins, so since I wanted to get the last Devil Dinosaur one (I nabbed #1 in one auction, and 2-7 and 9 in another), I figured it was a good time, even if a couple of them were like $3 (which seems horrible overpriced for the era). That's probably next for me to read after the Legion stuff I have... I stopped around 330 or so after re-reading the Stern run (my favorite)... though I can't imagine I'll really re-read the Crossing, I figured for OCD purposes I ought to have'em (I was missing the lead-in).

Kirby's Fourth World. YEAAAAAHHHH BOOIIIIIII I am not even going to talk about how much I want that. It wasn't a purchase of mine, but I was reading the Kirby Fourth World omnibuses (omnibi?) from the library a while ago and noticed they had volume 1 & 3, but not 2. I made a request to the library, which they ordered, and I was first on the wait list to take it out.
