Summer loot, part 2. From todocoleccion, paid on the 29th, sent on the 4th (vacation), received on the 5th! via Correos: What Carlos Giménez is to Spain, Horacio Altuna is to Argentina. Although their strengths couldn't be farther apart. Despite his intentions to delve in social issues, as evidenced by his first success as a complete author (Chances), he ended relegated to depicting women as objects, for a very well known American magazine. Paid on the 28th, sent on the 1st, received on the 18th! via Correos (economy). Spanish eBay seller: Same Argentinian writer as the last ones with Altuna, this time teaming up with Breccia's son, Enrique. Very long series which has been compiled in numerous occasions at both sides of the Atlantic. I chose this edition and this issue because it contains the best three stories I've read of the character. I haven't read them all, but enough to know what to expect. Bought on the 28th, sent on the 30th, received on the 4th via Correos. Amazon (ES): Two more examples of the great Italian master's work. Slightly dented, could've been much worse given the "packaging", but partially reimbursed. I ended paying 15€ each. Bought on the 28th, sent on the 30th, received on the 4th via GLS. 4th Universal Comics order: Same guys from the ones in the previous post, were the artist was imitating the guy below, but not they're in full swing. Notice how the face on the left side of volume four is an exact copy of Luca Torelli's famous attitude.
And here we have the original, Torpedo. It's been reprinted so many times and by so many publisher, often in several formats... it's the equivalent of Watchmen. This omnibus is huge, 720 pages of thick paper, the same size Spider-Man By Roger Stern and just as good. The other one is rather peculiar, a favorite of mine. Bought on the 4th, shipped on the 11th, received on the 14th via UPS. 5th Walt's Comic Shop order: Last examples of European comic. Back to super-heroes.

From todocoleccion, paid on the 5th, sent on the 8th, received on the 11th via Correos: I would've liked the Gallery Edition better, but this one was 26.50€, all in.

Today my Thor: Heroes Return Omnibus arrived. It collects Thor (1998 series) 1-35 plus some other comics.
Dan Jurgens writes the majority of the stories in this collection and John Romita Jr. draws many of the issues:
Near the end of the collection, Andy Kubert becomes the penciler:
There is even a story with art by Ladrönn:

I ordered a copy of Detective Comics #234.
On the cover, a generic evil scientist is hitting Batman and Robin with an amnesia ray! And Batman is saying “Who are we? Why are we wandering the streets in these costumes?”
How are they going to get out of this! I am on the edge of my seat!

I stopped getting it about #255 but I bought all the issues I missed a few years ago. I really can’t argue with people who don’t like it. But the run had its moments.

Picked up a copy of Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection, Volume 8, entitled “Man-Wolf at Midnight” yesterday, which covers issues 124 - 142. I have a handful of these as floppies, so the big draw was getting a bunch of expensive issues, including 129, for $40.
I now own a copy of every ASM in one format or another from 1 - 400, so I can get down to the heavy work of actually reading my entire way through the rest of the series (I stopped at the end of the last Epic because there was too big a gap between 123 and where my floppies began).

I enjoyed the Jurgens run quite a great deal, although to be honest, it was in spite of the art, as I am not much of a JRJr fan, although I do like Andy Kubert usually.
