Back from CGC, Simpsons #1 Along with this I also got back my copies of Radioactive Man (first series). They look so nice together as a series. Now you have something to put your cans of Duff on so you don’t ruin the end table. If I was in Shelbyville, I'd have my cans of Fudd on there.

I ordered Fantastic Four Masterworks vol. 2, reprinting Fantastic Four #11-20 and Annual #1. This is an odd gap in my collection, because I have Masterworks vol. 1 and then I have a bunch of Essentials that start with reprinting #21.
Right now I have $225 in credit cards rewards points that I could spend at Amazon, so I'm trying to figure on what TPBs or HCs I want to buy (or maybe spend them on something else). I'm looking at various Epic Collections. I've been on the fence for a while about the Iron Man: Doom Epic Collection because my opinion of the Epic that comes right before that one was mixed.

I was shocked to find these in a box of usual 90s-and-up back issues at the flea market. I used to have a $5 limit on back issues, but have been picking UGs like these up for $10 (like these) or more, just 'cause they're pretty rare at most shows. And it seems dealers want at least $5 for anything on newsprint that isn't beat to hell or funny animals. Plus, I figured I'd just spent $10 on heirloom tomatoes at the farmer's market and I probably won't even have those on a week.

When I was a kid, I didn’t like Superman very much. I had a friend who loved Superman (he still does!) and I sometimes stopped at his house on the way home from school and read his comics. And that’s where I picked up my distaste for Superman and Action Comics in the mid-1970s.
But I have very few specific memories of what I disliked. Today, when I read Superman comics from the 1970s, I see things that I remember disliking in a general way - ridiculous situations, wild coincidences, incredibly complex and stupid schemes to protect Clark’s identity - but I don’t remember much about the specific stories that I thought were so dumb when I read them at my friend’s house.
I do remember thinking Terra-Man was the dumbest villain ever.
And I do remember a few specifics about a single story ... there was an alien masquerading as a human and living in a Metropolis apartment. He was from the Andromeda galaxy and so he told the landlady his name was Andrew Meda. Somehow, he was revealed as an alien and he fought Superman. I think he was blue-skinned and had a lot of red hair including a mustache. And his clothes were purple and yellow.
For years, I had planned to look for that story but I didn’t actually search it until last night. And I found it! I got very lucky looking at Action Comics covers and didn’t have to spend that much time looking. Just a few minutes. It’s from Action Comics #460 and his name is Karb-Brak. I found it on eBay in a lot with #461 and #462 ... and Karb-Brak is in those issues too! So I bought all three issues.
I’m going to see how this story holds up almost 50 years later. I’ve come to appreciate these stories a lot more than I did as a kid ... I even like Terra-Man!

Superman is my favorite hero. He does things for no reward. He does it because it’s the right thing to do. This is sorely missing in this world today.

And a pair of Crumb covers to boot!

So France got a Hobbit Hardcover and English-speaking countries didn't unless you want to pay megabucks for a limited slipcase edition...so my daughter gets one of these.

I just rewatched the Rankin-Bass animated The Hobbit movie for the first time since I was a kid... I was amazed to see how much David Wenzel's artwork in that grpahic novel looks like the beautiful painted backgrounds of the cartoon. His style perfectly (and I assume purposefully?) mimics the recognizable "outlines with watercolor" style of the backgrounds.

My first comic with 'tape' because this magazine-sized British publication was actually manufactured with a free badge 'taped' to the bottom left of the cover. A lot of these magazines got tape-pulls and were damaged when the badge was removed from the cover but this one is intact and looks like it just came out of the newsagent.
Batman Monthly #1. It's a 48 pg licensed reprint in full-colour from a 56-issue series that started in 1988. #1 reprints Untold Legend of the Batman 1-2. It's almost 9x12. I'm debating on whether or not to get the full run of 56 issues but didn't pass up on a high-grade #1 at a great price.

Nice pickup. Pretty sure I bought that new off the stands back in the day. I don't have it anymore though.

I saw a group of Worlds Finest on eBay.
#230 #232 #234 #235 #238 #260 #263
#235 is the cover where a giant hand is squeezing Superman and his head pops off!
You know, I’ve always wondered about that cover!
The low bid for the lot was $8, so I bid $8.
And five days later I won!
There’s a whole lot of other goofy crap going on in those covers. I can hardly wait!
