During the CCF Christmas , I learned that Combat Kelly and the Dirty Dozen was a spin off from a Sgt Fury comic. I picked these up online. Thanks Crimebuster . It came in a lot.

One of the local vintage toy stores was having a Christmas Eve Say sale, and they have a small, but good selection of comic back issues. I stopped by and came home with a handful of books, including 3 of the Marvels I had as a kid that I am trying to reacquire. -M

As loathe as I am to order from Lonestar these days, they had a bunch of interesting stuff in a recent dollar sale-several issues of Weird Love and a couple of modern Batman series I am picking up on the cheap when I can-The Adventure Continues telling stories based on the Animated Series-and Urban Legends a neat little anthology of mostly done in one or two stories. Plus they had an affordable issue of Critters with Usagi and an issue of Donald Duck Adventures I needed on sale so I placed a small order just before Christmas that arrived today. I have one more Lonestar order outstanding (I won something in their auction the sale week they had a bunch of the Gladstone Disney albums in their dollar sale) that may or may not arrive before the end of the year. -M

Did lonestar take a dip in service?

Did lonestar take a dip in service? More an increase in prices and the owner using the comics newsletter for a political platform that is out of place for that venue. Shipping prices have increased a lot, and the minimum price for a book not in the dollar sale is now $2.50, but usually more. Their service (other than pricing) is still good (things are well packaged and ship quickly), but they are no longer a good alternative for a budget conscious buyer. I can usually find things at shops and cons for much less than what Lonestar will charge for them, particularly for lower to mid grade books. Their buying prices are higher than most as well (I regularly see books on ebay selling for less that what Lonestar lists as a buying price) but that's little consolation for my buyer's wallet. I only buy when I get something under market in the auction and fill out an order to make shipping worthwhile or when there are enough dollar books in a given week's sale to make the shipping worthwhile. And those auction prices have skyrocketed on most things, so I rarely win anything. This win in last weekend's auction was a rarity for me, luckily it coincided with a bunch of those Gladstone Disney albums being in the dollar sale to make it worthwhile. -M

Any online alternatives to Lonestar recommended by anyone out there?

Any online alternatives to Lonestar recommended by anyone out there? Not that I know of. The only other "big" online retailer that has a large back issue selection is Mile High, and as bad as Lonestar prices have gotten, they don't even begin to approach the crazy that is Mile High prices. There may be some smaller sites out there that I am not familiar with and haven't bought from, but other than that it's ebay or individual sellers. There are a lot of places doing online auctions via WhatNot and facebook and such, and some may well be reputable (I know folks who use some and have had good experiences), but as far an a website you can go to and browse their catalog to see what might interest you, not so much. And if you are looking for non-keys, non-hot books, and non-high grade or slabbed books, the pickings are even slimmer. -M

Someone mentioned a Canadian online retailer a while back, forget the name of it - though I do remember looking at their site and not being able to figure out how to search for anything.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that would be the case. Someone mentioned a Canadian online retailer a while back, forget the name of it - though I do remember looking at their site and not being able to figure out how to search for anything. Probably Doug Sulipa's Comic World, very likely mentioned by me. Yes, the site is hard to navigate, as you basically have to open up each page separately and then use the search function to find anything (and you often have to send him an e-mail to get prices). But he's got a massive inventory and used to offer really good prices (although it's been well over a decade since I've ordered anything from him).
Another site that comes to mind which may be useful for all of you living in North America is Atomic Avenue - it's an online marketplace where a number of independent sellers offer comics, books and magazines. I found a few things there, esp. a few DC digests I was looking for, at very reasonable prices (and shipping to Europe was also pretty reasonable, but that was a loooong time ago).

So while my other book isn't going to get here until sometime next month, I'd thought I'd share a belated christmas present to myself Mostly wanted this because lord only knows how long it's gonna take for them to reprint Epic Collection 2 of Thor. Also was expecting/hoping for it to be more digest sized, but that's not the case. While it is small compared to an Epic Collection in both size and length, it's no where close to the Marvel Archie digests from a few years ago

I went to a show in Old Bridge New Jersey on the last day of the year. I went a little nuts , but it;s the last day of 2023 so... These were all a dollar each but the vendor gave me 23 books for 20 bucks. These fill holes An Atlas book I needed and shaxper urged me to get an Uncle Scrooge comic. Odds and ends
