I was browsing eBay and I came across a dealer selling Action Comics #484 to #492. This is from the era that I’m currently working on (Action #451 to #500) and I don’t have any of these issues! Buying them in a bunch saves on postage and handling, so I got it. I should have them in a week or so.
Action 490-91 is one of my favourite 2-part story lines from that era. I got the UK variant too

These two collected editions showed up today, the Phantom collects the first 8 issues of the 60's Gold Key series, and yet another Carl Barks volume added to the library. Perfect timing to enjoy during a lazy Sunday tomorrow.

Please tell me that the Phantom collection includes reproductions of those gorgeous George Wilson painted covers? That's one of the best parts of the Gold Key run.

It does indeed, and they are "full page" in front of their respective stories, no "added borders" or jammed to the back in some sort of reduced size "gallery". I wish all collected editions did the same, and yes, they are quite magnificent covers

Feeling better today, so I did go to the local con, but only stayed about an hour and a half as it was a cold blustery day in the 30s with high winds and snow flurries, but inside the building it was roasting, and the switch form the two while still recovering from the stomach bug left me feeling wiped out very quickly. I did pick up a few things at the show and I met up with my friend Jesse to pick up the latest batch of stuff I got from him in the group FB auctions. I have another local show in 2 weeks, so I didn't feel compelled to tough it out and stay at the show longer. So let's start with the stuff I got from Jesse. This is stuff I had bid on/won its bits and pieces over the last couple of months. Jesse and I keep a running tab of stuff I get from him and stuff I trade in to him, so cash rarely ever changes hands for these books and we just keep the total updating as books change hands. It leads to me sometimes jumping on books on impulse rather than it being something I am actively collecting (like the Steel and Firestorm #1s). Most of these were $1, those some (especially the sets) were in the $2-3 range. The Doc Strange with the Colan eternity cover was either $4 or $5, I can't remember without checking... sometimes I jump on cool looking covers/variants just because they appeal to my eye like these 2 and since it's not cash out of pocket, why not? . Next post what I picked up at the show today. -M

The first few arc, including the original series were really well done. It set up Meriem (Cavewoman) and what happened to her and the town she lives in. For a bit it meandered into meh-ville but its a fun stupid cheesecake dinosaur-filled book.

Today's mail call (and it was an adventurous mail call-international seller-from Algeria- shipped it requiring a signature, they attempted to deliver it on 2/28 when I wasn't home and didn't leave a notification, I was unaware they even tried to deliver it until a week later the seller contacted me through ebay asking why I hadn't tried to reschedule delivery. It's an international package so the tracking number didn't actually track it and I had to spend a fair amount of time on the phone with the USPS customer service to try to figure out where the package actually was (my local post office) and to find out what I needed to do to get the package. Then I got sick the next day and couldn't get to the post office for another 5 days, a lot of work for a book I spent $1.06 on after tax-it was free shipping): It's an interesting addition to my Kubert collection-a digest-sized French edition featuring Sgt. Rock. Interiors are b&w, there's text pages (in French) on other DC war comics (I recognized a mention of S&K Boy Commandos & Blackhawk in the wall of French text) & ads for other Kubert comics (Tor) as well. Saw this on ebay and put in my $1 bid, not realizing at the time it was a digest or that it was coming from Algeria, but it was $1 starting bid and free shipping so I took a chance, and ended up winning. Just toon 6 weeks to actually get the book, though the seller shipped it in a reasonable amount of time. -M

Wow, I can't believe an eBay seller offered free delivery for a non-domestic address - unless it was one of those online book dealers who seem to have deals global shippers. The 6-week delivery sounds about right, though - any overseas non-airmail option always takes pretty long. I used to order books from a US online store called Better World that offers free global shipping, and 6 weeks was about the average time it took for any package to arrive. A few times it took almost 2 months, and I remember being happy any time something arrived in less than a month.
