I'm trying to fill in what I am missing to make a run of 101-261, I have 153 up, and need a couple dozen in that 101-153 range. I have all the Silver Age stuff in trade or omnibus, so aside form an issue or two that Kubert did covers on, I'm good with the 1-100 run with what I have. I do have one of the Bronze Age omnibus, but it skips the reprint 80/100 pagers and all the reprints in the era where JLA was a big book with a new lead and reprints, and some of those reprints are Golden Age stories I wouldn't be able to get easily elsewhere, so I decided to grab the individual issues to fill in that run. -M

MRPs_Missives, fantastic haul! I've been trying to find a clean copy of that Venture anthology. And those Archie Scooby books were a ton of fun. Heck all Archie books are fun reads. The Venture book wasn't on my radar until he got it in on consignment and I recognized the Adams art on the cover and I looked up the book on GCD. Once I knew what it was, I snagged it. Not a lot of his other regular buyers are into that type of books, so I can usually snag some interesting things when he gets them in. That was a book from one of his consignment sellers that he took to get other books the consigner had he thought he could do well with, and even Randy didn't know much about it-same with the Haunt of Horrors-same consigner and no one else was interested so I got them for a great price, both issues for under $20. As for the Scooby books, I generally grab any Scooby books I see at a decent price, which usually precludes the Gold Key and Charlton stuff which can be pricey, but most of the Scooby stuff is just a plain fun read. I never bought a lot of Archie prior to about 5-6 years ago, Started with going for the Gray Morrow stuff in Chilling/Red Circle Sorcery and Madhouse and the Red Circle Heroes, expanded into red dress covers, and now I pick up ones that catch my eye, Considering diving into getting more Sabrina and Josie, but my available budget is arguing against taking anything more onto my want list. -M

Very recent purchases-- nothing nearly as voluminous as MRPs_Missives' prodigious haul--
First, a book from the so-called "IRS Collection". While it's not recognized as a "curated" pedigree collection, it does have a somewhat interesting story.
Next, a very nice copy of Young Romance #132, with a great cover by John Romita Sr.--
A couple of railroad-related giveaway books from the late 1950's--
And finally, more "dumb ol' girl" (a Dennis the Menace quote) comics-- including a Bob Oksner Nun cover (Young Love #104) and a nice Jay Scott Pike cover (Girls' Love Stories #178)

Very recent purchases-- nothing nearly as voluminous as MRPs_Missives' prodigious haul That prodigious haul represents about 6 months of grabbing books from Randy, would have been a little bigger and a year's worth of grabs (since Gem City last year) but he sent along a box of comics I had gotten from July-Dec with our mutual friend Jesse when they both did a show in Indiana back in Jan/Feb. Unless I am exclusively dollar or less bin diving, my hauls are much smaller by necessity (not sure how Sunday will shape out-I have a set budget for the show, how big the haul is depends on the price point of the books I get-a few pricier books will yield a small haul, if I dollar bin dive it might be bigger, depending on what I find. Either way, this will be my last show until October, which may end up being the last show of the year for me. -M

Went to a show on Long Island today. It was the first time taking that 1 hour trip. These books were 12 for 10 bucks.

Icctrombone Love those Silver Bat Giants. Let me know what you think of the Adams Batman/Rhas series if/when you read it. I passed on it, but I am curious whether it is worth tracking down. I did not enjoy his Batman Odyssey or the late X-Men series he did, which is why I passed on this one, but I am a sucker for Rhas al Ghul stories. -M

I’m pretty sure I’ve got all three of those Batman 80-page Giants. I believe I paid 50 cents or a buck apiece for them way way back.

I figure for less than a buck I could gamble on it.

I’ve gotten to the point where the comics I need for my Detective Comics collection are WAY EXPENSIVE!!
So it’s unlikely that I’ll be buying any more than two or maybe three per year.
But I saw #229 on eBay and it was beat-up but not too beat-up for about $240. It’s been on my watchlist for two or three months. I’d forgotten about it. But I checked the watchlist a few days ago and saw that it was still there and I decided to offer him $200.
And he took it!
I should have it in a week or so. The Batman story is re-printed in one of the 80-Page Giants, so I’ve read it before. And the Martian Manhunter story is re-printed in the black-and-white Showcase volume.
But I’ve never read the Roy Raymond story! So that’s something to look forward to! Is that sarcasm? It’s hard to tell, even for me.

I legitimately thought the person who was racing Superman in that first issue was Abraham Lincoln Last but not least, I got this in the mail and this issue completes my Supreme run from 0-68 That's a lot of Burrito Supremes. Crap, now I want a comedy superhero book about that where he or she squirts people with Taco Bell Volcanic sauce
