This just arrived in the mail, the complete collected Hard Time (by Gerber, Skrenes and Hurtt): Found it from an online seller, Kenney's in Ireland, for just under $11 total (I made sure the packing slip with the total in euros is visible so people won't think I'm making it up). Great deal for a 460-page book. This one has been on my want list for years and I'm happy to have found it for such a low price.
I was sceptical about this one as I didn't really like the premise but I bought the first issue anyway on the basis of Gerber and Skrenes and, sure enough, was hooked and followed the series to its conclusion. They made it work.

So I couldn't completely pass up the Taschen sale that I posted about down thread. I did not go as nuts as I would have liked. But I did buy the Frank Frazetta book and in order to bump it over the threshold for free shipping and added The Complete Little Nemo book as well.

So inventive and otherworldly and surreal. It's haunted by the spirit of early 20th century urban America, but with the weird eccentricities of old America never far away. It's practically Americana.

I’ve read bits and pieces of Little Nemo over the years, but by no means all. It’s an incredibly influential strip that definitely deserves the deluxe treatment.

It's a well-worn phrase, but I truly believe it doesn't get much better than McCay and Little Nemo. Fabulous purchase, congrats.

I bought Showcase Presents Blue Beetle which reprints the entire 1980s Blue Beetle series plus his Secret Origins issue. This was a series that my twin brother bought several issues of when we were kids. I had purchased a few issues more recently. But when I saw that the remaining issues were more expensive than I expected, I decided to go for the B&W Showcase volume. One copy on Ebay was way cheaper than the rest of the listings.

Half Price Books was having a 20% off "Big Sale" for Labor Day weekend. I had 2 big bags o'stuff I wanted to purge, so I took them over to sell this afternoon and looked around for a bit. I walked out with a small pile of comics, a Showcase Presents volume I didn't have and a trio of novels based on the Pathfinder rpg game (not pictured) plus more money in my pocket than I walked in with. Among the comics I got were a chunk of Paul Dini's run of Detective Comics and the the first issue of Cassandra Cain's Batgirl series... They also had the All Star Squadron Showcase Presents volume priced at $9.99 (instead of whatever goofy collector's prices most of these go for now) and it was one of the volumes I didn't already have, so I grabbed it. Nothing major, but a handful of fun stuff that didn't cost me anything out of pocket because of the trade credit I got. -M

This year I have been selling my excess books for a dirt cheap starting price. I just want them out of the house. Too many sellers start their auctions at a high price and it doesn’t sell. I let the market decide.
I've seen auctions get 0 bids with low start off prices (eg $9.95) because no one stepped up, and then the following week when it's relisted, 5 bidders crawl out of nowhere and take it closer to $25.
The market can be a beeyotch.

Yes, welcome back @hots . It's been quieter than usual in this thread without your contributions. Looking forward to seeing some of the oddball stuff you may have procured recently.

My fiancé came through with some great gifts for our 7 year anniversary! Filled some gaps in my collection after some time! Finally have the full runs of Heckler and Trencher! As well as Battle Chasers' anthology finally finding its way into my TPB collection! Can't wait to crack these open and finally read em!

I bought Shade the Changing Man #1 to #8. The 1970s Ditko series. It came in the mail and it's been sitting in the box for almost two weeks. I usually tear the box open and read everything as soon as I have time. But I was kind of busy and I have been re-arranging my room and my SHade package got put off to the side. I didn't exactly forget about it. I just knew I wouldn't have time to read any of it. I had #1, #2 and #8 when I was a kid, and I still have those copies. I bought #3 a few years ago, thinking I would complete the series. I was trying to find the missing issues from one dealer so I could save on postage, but I finally gave up and bought all 8 issues in a group for $20 and $7 postage, and the total was cheaper than buying the four issues I need from four different dealers. I've said before that I read everything pretty much as soon as I get it. I might get a large reprint volume and read it slowly. But single comics get read pretty quickly, within a day or two, unless I get a bunch of comics, but even then, I get to them within a week or so. Anyway, Shade the Changing Man is now in the queue!
