Those Busiek/Larson Defenders are great fun. I still need #10-12 myself.
Cei-U! I summon my current want list!

That Action Comics #16 is pretty awesome! I'm hoping to eventually get one or two of those early non-Supes cover Actions, but of course they're tricky to find and afford. Currently my earliest Action is #27.
Also love the Spider-Man Annual #1. Not just a nice milestone, I also found it a really enjoyable read, with all the big full-page splash pages, and the crazy number of cameos/plugs for other characters' books.

Another new purchase from the pre-Superman era.

Another new purchase from the pre-Superman era. Homina-homina! Extraordinary book! And a terrific Vin Sullivan cover. As an editor at National, it was he who bought the first Superman story from Siegel and Shuster, correct? Boy, if this and Action #16 were the only books in your collection, it would still be mighty impressive. I'm salivating. Try to leave a few for the rest of us, huh?

As an editor at National, it was he who bought the first Superman story from Siegel and Shuster, correct? Yes. Sullivan was the editor for Detective Comics, Inc. (The name of the company when Superman was first published. It did not become National Comics until 1947.). The story goes that Max Gaines and Sheldon Mayer recommended the feature to Sullivan. Boy, if this and Action #16 were the only books in your collection, it would still be mighty impressive. These are just the most recent books added to my collection of 54,000+ issues. This isn't even my earliest More Fun, I picked up #7 and #8 back in January.

Well, in that case I think I'll just go back to collecting commemorative Elvis plates from the Franklin Mint. You seem to have this whole comic thing covered. I kid. That is stupefyingly awesome. I look forward to seeing you top yourself, and I wish you continued success.

Snagged a copy of Marvel Premiere #15! Very happy considering I paid a fraction of what it seems to be going for these days.

Seeing September 1939 on a comic book makes you think, that was a month that pretty much shook the world.
I guess that was probably on the shelves a bit before 9/1/39.

Different strokes, but I'll take the work of William Messner-Loebs, Dave Stevens, the Kubert boys, Doug Wildley (Jonny Quest), Mark Schultz (Xenozoic), Gene Colan (Silverblade), Mantlo & Guice (Swords of the Swashbucklers), Doug Moench, Gene Day (Aztec Ace), Mike Grell (Shaman's Tears, Starslayer), Mignola, Moebius, Jacques Tardi, Geoff Darrow, Michael Kaluta, Brian Bolland, Paul Chadwick, Dave Dorman, John Bolton (Cheval Noir), Steve Gerber (Void Indigo), Sergio Aragones, Tim Truman and John Ostrander (Starslayer) plus the first handful of Grimjack stories, and the 2nd or 3rd Groo story ever all day long. -M

The early Starslayers were good when they had the Grell artwork. Those are big names but the material is d list.

The rest are of varying quality, although I really liked what little Void Indigo we got.

The early Starslayers were good when they had the Grell artwork. Those are big names but the material is d list. Different strokes for different folks. I pretty much feel the same about a lot of the Marvel runs you love so much. I personally don't think Ostrander has ever done d-list material, nor Gene Colan for that matter, and Cheval Noir is a treasure trove of stuff so far from what I have sampled. I love the Jonny Quest series. And I rather explore stuff I haven't read before and is new to me than rehash the same ole corporate superhero stuff I have read over and over again ad nauseum, or even some of it I haven't read but which is the same stuff as what I have read with different costumes and creators phoning it in for the paycheck. But again different strokes for different folks. -M
