Birthday was good for me. My wife isn't into my comics collecting (though she's supportive and understanding), so if I want anything comics for birthday, Father's Day, Xmas, etc, I buy it myself. She gets some other things I don't know about so there are still some surprises, and I get comics I need (except one time when we were newly married and she got me a copy of X-Men #95 that I didn't know was coming. Nice surprise). So for this birthday I got a couple of trades, a copy of the Essential Avengers that has all the comics for the Celestial Madonna arc, and about 15 issues of Thunderbolts that I needed to fill in for the pre "fight club" issues. Now, thanks to a stack of later Thunderbolts I got for a quarter each at the FCBD sale, I have all the issues from the -1 issue thru 135 (excepting the "fight club" issues). If I get ambitious, I may take a picture of them all this week.

I made a couple of buys lately...some were actual wants, some were curiosities that I added so that I could get a good shipping deal from a seller online.
Legends #1,2,4,5
Wanted to check out this series. Hopefully it isn't too bad. I know the hype has driven up prices for the set and issues #1, 3 in particular. These 4 were the right price, around $3 a piece and in nice shape so I figured why not.
What If Vol. 2 #2
This What If ponders what if Daredevil had killed the Kingpin. In light of the recent Netflix series which I think is the best thing Marvel has done to date (TV and movie wise), I had to snag it for a buck.
Man Without Fear #3
This issue completes that 5 issue Miller run for me. Again, the TV show seems to be causing this series to get some strange values online but I was happy to get it cheap.
New Teen Titans #50
Had an awesome looking cover. I have always heard great things about Teen Titans from Perez an co and have a few that are still in my "to read pile".
Batman 655
First Damian Wayne...dunno if I like the idea of Batman having a son, might sell this one.
Gotham City Sirens #3
Is this series any good?
DC Super Stars #1
Older issue, and a number 1...I think its a Nick Cardy cover and am hoping it isn't too shabby.

DC Super-Stars #1 is a reprint of a couple of Silver Age Teen Titans stories. If you're a fan of the original Teen Titans, it's good. If you're not into their swingingest, groovy good times, then maybe not.

My report from the big 4 day Houston show - All copies are NM unless noted.
Astonishing Tales - # 1-2, 4, 6 (I paid $80.00 for the #1 in 9.2, the most expensive book I bought over the weekend.)
Captain America #168 - 1st Helmut Zemo and a replacement copy for one that I read until it fell apart when I was a kid.
Fables - 18, 23-24, 28-29, 31, 34-38, 40-43, 46, 49, 51-59 (I paid 1 dollar each for unread copies).
Jack of Hearts (1983 Mini-Series) #1-4
Namor 7, 9 (Dollar bin)
Sgt. Fury #37 (Found a very tanned but otherwise flawless copy for $6.00.)
Shade the Changing Man 14-32, 34-52 (Fifty cents each for what was obviously dealer stock).
Special Marvel Edition #2
Strange Tales #168
Sub-Mariner #38 (a gorgeous copy featuring the great pair of Ross Andru and John Severin)
Suicide Squad (Ostrander series) #3, 6, 13, 19-20, 35-37, 45, 47, 54-55. I just need 11 issues to complete now.
Tower of Shadows #1 ( I paid $64.00 for a solid VF copy.)
Weird Western Tales #52. 58, 63 (Scalphunter!)
All in all a good con, though I regret not picking up the three issues of ROM that I need.

Also, if you get a chance, check your messages. I had sent you one last November about those ROM issues.

Haha well he was able to make it to a con (the only con within 3 hours of where I live!) and grabbed them for me. Sigh some day I will attend a con myself.

Maybe I'm getting tight in my latter years but , I don't want to pay 35 dollars and up to just walk into a con. This is why i don't go to cons... I have a few not too far from my place (Montreal,Ottawa, Toronto for comics, and Québec City and Gatineau for Bandes Dessinées), but I refuse to pay an entrance fee to buy comics. I understand people who do it to meet People they wanna meet, but I don'T care about that... Actually, I go to "Bande Dessinée" con once in a while... The entrance for the one in Gatineau is around 2-3$, and Franco-Belge artist (I include Québec artist in this category) do sketches for free. I buy the books there to get sketches, but you could definitely walk in with your books you already own and get a sketch.

I'm not opposed to paying an entrance fee but I don't want to pay more than 25 dollars.

Depends what shows you go to. Wizard World shows are like $50 and up depending on location. Gem City over in Dayton is $10 and is a decent sized show, our small con here in town has an entrance fee of $3. One of the local cons doubles as a fund raiser for a food bank and it's admission is a non-perishable food item or a $5 donation to the food bank. Depending where you live, you can avoid the big ticket/high entrance fee cons and still get the con experience.
